Just wanted to wish you all a wonderful holiday with your friends and family. We have so much to be thankful for eh? :D
This year all those brave men and women serving and representing us so honourably in Afghanistan are foremost in my thoughts.

I am also so grateful to have our daughters here. I am thankful that my oldest has got a great job at a vet clinic in Vancouver and is now fianicially independent (yahoo!!!!) but still such a close and treasured friend and daughter.

We are having our turkey today. As a fundraiser our track club sold organic, free range turkeys and judging from the look of it even as it cooks I know this is going to be the best dang turkey we have ever had. The juices, colour and texture are head and shoulders (wings and breasts?) above anything I have ever cooked.

Eat heartily and well my friends wherever you may be in this great land. :)

Dinner was fabulous if I do say so myself. Nothing fancy but everythng turned out well.

Okay perhps the Pumpkin Chiffon Pie could have set a bit better but it still tastes great.

I did eat that extra portion for you Grace. You will see it next week.

Thanks for all the best wishes. I left the US when I was 10 and yet it still feels weird celebrating Thanksgiving in October.

Where are the rest of you Canuckleheads? Stuffing your faces and watching hockey? :D :D

You celebrated today?? I thought it was tomorrow! :o My calendar says tomorrow, anyway. Although you probably did tell me you were cooking today but I was too distracted to pay attention... :o Sorry. Glad to know everything turned out well though! How could it not??!!! And yes, Thanksgiving in October would be strange, I think....

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We also had our dinner tonight. I am stuffed. The girls have to catch the ferry back to Vancouver tomorrow so we celebrated tonight not tomorrow. I have another Thanksgiving meal at my SIL's tomorrow  so will be making another pumpkin pie and apple crisp for them.

Maureen glad your daughter found a job and is now independent. (If children are ever independent...but you know what I mean).

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! We used to get free range turkeys in Allentown, it was always the best turkey we ever had. (May send DH up there to get us two this year.)

Are you spying :D

Hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving. We had our turkey yesterday, and then, yes watched hockey. :D Lot's of good company and good food! I come from a family of six and we don't get a chance to get everyone together very often, so it's nice to be able to once in a while.

Thanks Maureen et al. for the Thanksgiving wishes! :) Happy Thanksgiving to all the other Canucks too. Have a wonderful rest of weekend.

We had a potluck Thanksgiving dinner with friends yesterday and tonight is the family dinner. The weather all weekend so far has been exquisite, so we've been taking full advantage and going out hiking, running, paddling, etc. The fall colours are lovely too. Here's an example:

Thanks Linda. She found a spacious basement suite with a lovely family in Dunbar. The rent is reasonable by Vancouver standards.

Sounds like everyone is having a pleasant holiday.

Those eastern fall colours are breath taking. It is sunny and warm here too- close to 18deg. This can't last forever....

Happy Thanksgiving fellow Canucks! I spent the weekend with family on the west coast of the island and just got back tonight. We had our turkey dinner last night. As requested, I made the spiced pumpkin cheesecake and was really happy with how it turned out. So creamy! Tonight, dinner will be a turkey sandwich and piece of leftover cheesecake. Just can't go wrong with that!

I thought I would post a couple pictures from my Thanksgiving weekend. A little different from the fall colours that Natasha posted, but Canadian nonetheless. :D

The photos actually remind me of some of Kima/Maureen's husband's paintings, which I love!

Funny you should say that about Kima's husbands paintings, as some of them are actually of that area! My favourite of his paintings was one called Cox Bay, which is a bay just a little further north of the one in my pictures.

Great pictures oceanjasper! Where are these pictures taken? I visited a gorgeous area on the west coast of the island last year; looks very similar. Problem is neither DH or I can remember the name of the place! Had to hike through the woods and down a slope to get to the beach area. It was just beautiful.

Those are beautiful photos Oceanj and they do remind me of Ron's paintings.

He has a one man show opening here in two weeks.
The theme this year is "Changing Light". he has done two or three paintings from the same spot in different lighting and weather conditions and different times of the day.

Today the turkey becomes soup! :) :)

The pictures are of Wickanninish Beach in the Pacific Rim National Park, which you can basically drive right up to. Do you remember roughly where the trailhead started, i.e. was it closer to Ucluelet or Tofino? Was it in the park? Was it near one of the resorts? There is an unmarked trail to Florencia Bay, which is closer to Ucluelet than Tofino, and one of the access trails is quite similar to what you describe. I have to run to work, but I'll check back and see if we can figure it out for you. :)

And Maureen, best wishes to your husband with his one-man show. Wish I lived closer and could come see it!

Well, the names Ucluelet and Tofino don't sound familiar to me. Where we were was about an hour from Victoria by car. I think that it was a national/provincial park. The parking lot was right off of the main road, but we had to walk down a slope for about 20 minutes through a heavily forested area. Maybe close to Sookie(sp??) (that name rings a bell).

Miche you may be thinking of Sooke Regional Park. Was there a big graasy field too? (part of an old farmstead) It is near Sooke and it a short hike down to the water.

Or it could be Mystic Beach which is also in that area and beautiful.

Ucluelet and Tofino are about a 5 hour drive from Victoria (oj is much closer where she lives).

Maureen,
This is a dumb question, but what do you get nervous about for the shows- is it mainly that there are a lot of logistics in setting it up, or are there critical reviewers or something?
The paintings I've seen on the website are just stunning.

Well, we could have the right park, since Mystic Beach is in the Pacific Rim National Park. :) Do you remember if you had to cross a suspension bridge to get to this beach? If not, then I don't think it was Mystic Beach.

Here (http://www.explorevancouverisland.com/Travel_Map_Sooke_To_Port_Renfrew_BC.htm) is a map and a short description of the beaches along the road from Sooke to Port Renfrew.

Not a dumb question at all dreamer.

I am a worrier by nature. Also Ron's art means alot to me and having other people look at it and judge whether it is worthy to purchase makes me nervous. It is like watching your children perform in the school play I suppose. .

The gallery owner says the response to the invitation has been amazing and one of his painitngs was on the cover of a widely distributed arts magazine (Plus there is an interview with him inside) but I still get nervous and always have.
The whole opening is very emotional- some of the things people say and their reactions are overwhelming. The life of an artist is quite an isolating one. Ron paints and paints with only me to see his work and then suddenly it is there for the whole world to see.

I must say he never ever worries about it. He paints what he loves and he is happy with his work. He is thrilled when someone else likes it but the satisfaction comes from the process. Money has never motivated him nor the accepatnce of others (that is my gig!).

Thanks OJ. From the link, I now know that we were in the Juan de Fuca Provincial Park, at China Beach! It was stunning and now I can go back the next time we are in Victoria.

Maureen,
Your answer was very moving- I can very much understand the various aspects you wrote about, being someone myself who is tuned in to emotion, and art, and is a sensitive type by nature. I guess it is a blessing that your DH has that inner serenity when it comes to his art, or else it would be awfully tough. My DH is also more serene than me about many things- which is generally a blessing, though sometimes annoying! :)
Your DH's work has so much beauty. I will be hoping this show goes really well. Do wish I could be there to add my cheers!
Best to you,
dreamer
