Hello everyone,I'm new to posting message but was wondering if anyone out there watched the Oprah show with Dr Phil about getting real with fat? I thought he made a lot of sense because I know I eat for all the wrong reasons.I'm not even hungry most of the time but just bored or tired or stressed.I dont even know what it is like to feel hunger pangs because I eat before I ever get to that point! Can anyone else out there relate? Or, are you using Cooking Light & Dr Phils advice to lose weight & get healthy?I'm reading his book right now & eating healthy & I am losing.Anyone have any favorite recipes for chocolate that they could pass along? Thanks everyone & hope to hear from some of you soon.

I have not seen Dr. Phil discuss eating habits or fat on Oprah's show, but I am a big fan of his and assume he had terrific advice. What is the name of the book by him that you are reading? I would like to check it out. Gina

I love Dr. Phil...he just cuts right to the chase! I'm so sorry I missed the show where he discussed eating for the wrong reasons.

I'm interested to know which book you're reading too. (Sounds like it's helping you maybe I can get something from it too)

While I can't say that I have seen Dr. Phil more than a couple of times, I really like his approach. Rather than obsessing on "the problem," I think he tries to dig deeper into clients' lives to find the motivating forces behind their actions. All too often we try to treat the symptoms, whether they be overeating, smoking, etc., but we never question why we do these things. It's far easy to say "I'm going on a diet" or
"I'm joining Jenny Craig", than it is to be introspective and determine what drives your eating habits. I have an aunt who both overeats and is a shop-a-holic. Her health is failing so severely now (after four heart attacks at age 57) that she can't go shopping. What's more, she is on a restricted diet because of the heart attacks. All of the joy and interest that she had in life is gone. What little pleasure she got out of life involved eating and spending money. I just keep thinking "how sad." Hammarskjold once said that the goal of life is to find something worthy enough to die for and worthy enough to live for. I think if more of us starting asking why we are here, we would be much more successful in addressing all of the addictions that our society suffers, whether it's weight or drugs or shopping or whatever. From what I have seen of Dr. Phil, I think he is on the right track.

Hey I taped the second Dr. Phil show and I would be willing to make copies for people. It really was good. He is all about your relationship with your body and food- which I think is the most important issue.
