View Full Version : Movers here... stressful!

We are moving and the movers are here. It is so stressful! I can feel my heart pounding. I'm a private person... and also one who likes to keep things clean... and also a sensitive type. So you can imagine that having the movers tromping around the kitchen, etc etc. is hard. (We have to live here another week before leaving.) We packed our own stuff but still I confess I'm on the verge of tears. (Haven't been sleeping well due to medical issues- that definitely lowers the threshold, doesn't it?!!) Anyway, I know people say moving is one of the worst stressors, and I'm here to agree. I've actually moved 20 some times in my life, so it's not like I haven't done it before, but at this point it's harder.
DH is a real calm-type, and is supervising the movers (and is happy to do so). I'm usually not such a coward but since I feel overwhelmed, and I don't think I would do anyone any good in this state, I'm doing what my cat used to do whenever loud things started happening- I'm hiding in a back room. :o And writing to the BB!
I don't often post in such an emotional manner, hope you don't mind an impulsive vent! I know many of you have moved or are in the midst so I'm guessing I might have some company out there!
Thanks for listening!

Take a deep breath, let your DH supervise and remember that it will be over very soon. I hate moving and know exactly what it feels like to have everything uprooted. Can you get out of the house, even if its just to go get a cup of coffee or something?

I feel the same way about having people in my house. The only difference is that I'm afraid they'll see how messy my place is. :o

When we redid our kitchen 7 years ago I didn't even meet our contractor! I let DH do everything. The contractor and workers came after I went to work and left before I came home and I loved it that way. People are surprised that I didn't even meet the guy but I just wanted to pretend it wasn't happening. It's either that or I hover. We had termites and so we had to have an inspector come to our house! Can't they just take my word for it and cut right to the treatment portion? ;) Anyway, I followed the guy around like I was his shadow or something. I hate doing that but my imagination gets the best of me if they are in my bedroom alone.

Now we want to get new windows but the big thing that's keeping me from taking the plunge is having these people come inside where all my personal stuff is. I would pay some serious extra money if I could just snap my fingers and have it be finished!

Robyn, thanks so much for your quick reply. I tried to remind myself, like you said, they will be leaving soon. Now they are gone.
My DH dealt with it all fine and is now calmly cleaning up the kitchen, the bathroom they used, etc. while I feel very grateful to him. :o

Stacy your reply really brought a smile to my face because I can so so relate! Let me know if you come up with any good ideas to survive these situations! We'll have to share notes!

I know someday this moving thing will just be a memory, and I will feel comfortable again, but I'd like to fast forward to that time!

I did get into the kitchen briefly during the hubub and snuck an extra hunk of a Green & Black dark organic chocolate bar, some for DH (to keep his strength up) and some for me (just because). :)
Thanks again,
