I am looking for some ideas for an easy kids craft project. I have an almost 3 year old DD who is going through a daycare transition, and is at her "old" daycare 1 day a week. Hopefully next week will be the last week, and we'll be done and will be 100% at her new school (we were waiting for a Thursday spot to open up).

Anyhow, we've been experiencing some difficult drop-offs as a result of this, and I came up with an idea to have her and I work on a craft project on Wednesday that she can take to school with her on Thursday. The idea is that she and I do the "prep" work and then she can take it to school to do the craft with her friends there.

Last week we spent some time in the morning cutting strips of paper so that they could be made into paper chains. She had a really good time with this, and was very excited about taking her paper to school with her to do her craft. I'd like to do something similar this week. Next week will be the last week and we'll be decorating cookies to take as treats.

Does anyone have any ideas for that kind of a thing? It doesn't have to be seasonal, but it can be.

Thanks! :)

Lara,
Have you tried www.familyfun.com ? We have been getting the magazine for about 10 years and find TONS of crafts for all ages. There website is as good as the magazine!

Good luck!

DS is almost the same age as your daughter, so I'm thinking some of the crafts he does at school would work well.

--he's pasted leaves onto a small paper dessert plate then threaded a piece of yarn through a hole punched in the top so it can be an ornament. You could gather the leaves and have the holes punched and yarn cut at home (although I guess you should gather leaves in the next hour or so before the snow/rain happens) :) You could also use fake leaves from Michael's or the Hobby Lobby

--he made a birdfeeder of pinecones with soynut butter spread into it and then rolled it in seeds and hung it from our tree w/some yarn. He loved this one. You could work together to cut the yarn beforehand.

Those are the two that come to mind right now. HTH.

Puppets out of lunch bags.

We do this often, and in fact did them this morning before going to daycare. I have a pail w/ pompoms, yarn, googly eyes, etc that we glue onto our puppets after coloring them.
