Pammy--
It breaks my heart too. I have been a vegetarian since I was fifteen and the manner in which meat is processed was a huge factor in my decision. Good luck to you in your conversion! It has been a wonderful lifestyle for me so far.

Pammy,
You make an eloquent point. I eat meat, but I don't like to think about where it comes from. Stories like the one you describe really make you stop and think.

Listening to NPR on my way home last night, I was heartbroken over the plight of the tens of thousands of farm animals in the U.K. and Europe due to the spread of hoof and mouth disease. This story has added to the pile of reasons I have been considering to stop eating meat. This is not a simple decision for me, and I have been mulling it over for some time, reading posts of others here on this BB regarding their decisions. For me, it is getting harder to stomach the thought of contributing to the industry which has developed practices which result in the tragedy taking place now, and harder still to think that I am eating the flesh of one of these poor creatures. I just want to make sure that what I am considering isn't just a knee-jerk reaction. Not looking for advice on how to do it, you all have discussed the vegetarian lifestyle pretty thoroughly. Just felt like sharing what I am thinking about.
