OK. Introductions later, but I'm in urgent need of recommendations for a spa (we used to call them fat farms) where my Mom and I can go for a week or so to jump start our erstwhile fitness and healthy eating routines. My search of the archives didn't turn up anything.

Even though I'm an adult my father says he'll pay (that's how much weight I've gained in the past two years! UGH!) Any advice or urls, etc. would be GREATLY appreciated. I've gotten to the point where I won't allow myself to be photographed. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Soon I won't be able to look in the mirror! This is desperation!

Check out www.frommers.com (http://www.frommers.com) for some suggestions.... I think the Seventh Day Adventists supposedly run some good health retreats without religious prostelytizing... Anyway, I've never been to one, but have read several plugs for them on the Frommers site. I can't get on it now for some reason or I would have linked to them.

Ok - Here's an excerpt from an article Frommers did on this.... "Trim that Waistline, Stretch those Muscles! Health Retreats and Education Centers, Starting at Just $500 a Week

If you're looking for a healthy getaway but can't afford the cost of those flashy "Hollywood" resorts and spas look no further--we've got the solution.

Try one of the Seventh-Day Adventist health and education centers, starting at a cost of only $500 per person per week (extended stays are also available).

Regardless of which center you select (Black Hills Health & Education Center 800/658-5433 or Poland Spring Health Institute 207/998-2894), both programs include all lodging and health-conscience meals, as well as activities (like cooking classes), exercise and programs (e.g., lectures on health and nutrition).

Black Hills, located in Hermosa, South Dakota, charges a basic rate of $500 per week. They also offer two other plans which include extensive medical workups and structural analyses. The cost for each of these plans, depending upon how in-depth you want to get, is $750 and $950 per week.

At the Poland Spring Health Institute (PSHI) in Poland Spring, Maine, the cost is $750 per week for a semi-private room (a shared double). In addition to all of the above-mentioned benefits, PSHI also includes hydrotherapy programs.

If you are trying to quit smoking, manage your diabetes, lose weight, change your diet, or simply renew yourself, these health centers are not only ready to take you in but also educate you on the best way to do so. "

Depending on where you are located, these are my recommendations:

Spa on Lake Austin (www.lakeaustin.com)
Any of the Canyon Ranch Spas (www.canyonranch.com) There is one in Vegas, one in Arizona, one is up-state NY
Ojhi Valley Inn and Spa in California
Golden Door Spa in California

But go online to spafinder.com and do a search.
