After spending an hour searching the Internet without success (more quantity than quality), I'll pose my question here...

Anyone have any good ideas for New Years Eve travel deals?

We're hoping to get together with some friends from Detroit somewhere warm! And none of us want to break the bank on expenses. Short of asking a minimally-helpful travel agent, are there any web sites and/or destinations that any of you can suggest?

Since NYE falls on a Sunday, we'd be looking to skip town Saturday and return January 2.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I'm not sure as I've never been a huge fan of New Year's celebrations but I did want to mention that if you decide to use a travel agent our very own Missindi is one and I'm guessing she would be more than minimally helpful.

Bahamas, Mexico or Jamaica come to mind as cheap/warm destinations.

I can't think of anything here in the US at that time that won't be hosting a college football bowl game so I would look towards Aruba or Cancun. Somewhere you can get a flight w/o a layover anywhere. Apple vacations did a good job for us years ago going to Cancun. It was a chartered non stop. Although customs was sort of weird. Aruba was much easier for what that's worth. I wouldn't hesitate to do a long a weekend in Aruba. That said, there wasn't a whole lot of nightlife there until much later in the evening. Even at midnight things hadn't geared all the way up but that all may be moot for NYE. We went in the middle of May.

I'm jealous. Hope you have a great time whatever you decide!

Greysangel (Jeanne) recommended St. Lucia on another thread---I think someone was looking for economical honeymoon spots. It's in the caribbean.

Maybe she'll pop in with more specific information on whether it would meet your specs.

If you don't want to leave the country, how about some place like Key West? I have no idea of the NYE costs compared to the rest of the year, but you could fly into Miami, drive part way down that Saturday (for some reason, we always end up staying on Marathon - probably so that we can have dinner at the Key Colony Inn :)), stay in Key West for NYE, then head back up. Our last trip down there was in January - it was warm and sunny compared to where we were living in New England :D.

We just got back Saturday night from a week in Nassau in the Bahamas. It was GREAT! The people are friendly, the beaches are clean and the prices are reasonable. Several of the locals mentioned that New Year's is a great time to be there. Check out this web site for ideas: bahamasnet.com
Have fun!

I was gonna suggest this also! Come on down Ralph!!! Before we moved to South Florida, we spent every New Years down here for years...lots of great concerts in the area for New Years Eve and the weather is beautiful!
