Hey ladies, I'm not trying to convert you. Please don't misunderstand me. I am simply sharing a good thing that has happened to me. I am a private chef by profession for a local spa and make it my business to create healthy, yummy masterpieces so you better believe I study up on food issues. When I was eating a lot of carbs with my meals, i.e., pasta, potatoes, stuffing, rice etc. I always felt groggy after each meal. Now that I've cut back, I feel so energetic and healthy! Is that a bad thing? You need to read more medical studies about the (real) effects of carbohydrates in our diets. If you think about it, they're everywhere. Basically anything made with sugar or white flour has no business in our diets! They simply reck havic on our digestive systems. Brown rice and whole wheat pasta are good in moderation but even they can cause problems. My mother-in-law who has been a diabetic for years has had to take insulin shots every day. We asked her if her Doctor ever suggested cutting down on carbohydrates. To our surprise she said no. We asked her to limit her carbs for two weeks and within two days her sugar level was down so that she didn't even have to take her shot! If people could only understand the damage that most carbs do to our systems then maybe they would be more capable of handling their own health problems without medications all the time. That to me is a good thing. Anyway, eat the way you want. Who am I to tell you otherwise.

My problem is that you're implying that all diets high in carbohydrates (60-70%) are unhealthy. The problem with most people who have unhealthy, high-carb diets is that they're eating the wrong kinds (potatoes, refined rices, pastas and breads) and are eating them in excess. You most likely felt groggy after ever carb-laden meal not simply because you were eating them, but because your serving sizes were way out of whack and you were consuming far too many calories overall.

Anyone who loses a significant amount of weight is bound to feel a rise in energy -- but after some time, the energy levels will decline if you're not fueling your body in the most efficient and healthy way.

I'm also a bit baffled by this claim that whole grains can wreak havoc in the body. What are they, pray tell?

Likewise, you may follow whichever diet you choose, but please do not insinuate that those of us opting to follow a different type of diet are unaware of the so-called dangers of complex carbohydrates.
I for one, know that there is no way on earth that I could function properly without eating the amount of carbohydrates I do (and to beat a dead horse here, from whole grain sources) -- and I certainly wouldn't be running the Boston Marathon in 3 weeks.

Ok, I'm definately shocked here by all the hostility. The information I pass on is a written medical fact. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I just wanted to share my joy. Too bad you feel the need to scold me instead of being happy for my personal success.

thekitchenangel - I have been reading these discussions with interest. Though they are heated, I don't think there's any scolding going on. Yes, everyone is different and each of our bodies reacts differently when we try a weight loss program. The LAST thing anyone wants to do is discourage someone from sharing an opinion on these boards. I have posted somethings myself and have gotten negative feedback or been told that I was misinformed. That's life, unfortunately. We all read information and we take in what we think sounds good and what works for us. I think there is probably more "concern" that people who cut out carbs do not have a well balanced diet. Please don't be offended. We all read tons of information on eating healthy and there is plenty of information to support both sides of any argument, I'm sure!

Then again, I am a carboholic and cannot imagine life without carbs http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif! What else is there besides carbs and cheese??

Well said, Susan. I don't believe you were scolded, kitchenangel - and most certainly not yelled at - it's merely a very hot topic of discussion, on this board and other places.

What people have to understand is that everyone is different.

If you have not already read this on the Good Food board, Grace has pointed out that Shelley Wooldridge (as she has now revealed herself to be) IS NOT a new member to this board. She started trouble here quite a while ago and was actually banned from the board and her messages removed. Continuing to try to intelligently debate this issue with her will serve no purpose. I suggest you do like I plan to and ignore any further responses - it can get VERY nasty if I remember correctly!

Thanks lindrusso. I was around back then, and I'm experiencing a sudden sense of deja vu. None of us realized this until she posted her name. Go figure.
