How funny is this?

I received this email and it looks like a class action settlement email. But then it also just looks like a bad marketing gimmick to get me to buy some flowers from Pro Flowers. They have the $10 off specials all the time.
Too funny.

You are receiving this notice because you were a customer of ProFlowers between October 4, 2001, and October 26, 2006. Under a proposed class action settlement, you are entitled to compensation. Upon final court approval of the proposed settlement, you will qualify for $10 off any single purchase at ProFlowers between January 1, 2007, and June 30, 2007, ("Redemption Period"). Simply visit www.ProFlowers.com during the Redemption Period, choose any bouquet, gift basket or other product, and then enter the following "Gift Code" at time of check out:(I removed the code). The compensation is only valid for internet orders placed on www.ProFlowers.com and is limited to one $10 Gift Code per class member. The Gift Code cannot be used for phone orders, and cannot be combined with other discounts or promotions, and is not valid for redemption or delivery of products during the 7 days prior to major floral holidays (Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Easter, Christmas and Thanksgiving).

There was a bunch of fine print too, but I'm not convinced this is an actual lawsuit judgement or just a really bad attempt to get me to buy some flowers.
LOL.

I get these notices sometimes at home thru snail mail and I just pitch them, like you, there seems to always be a sales pitch in them. Boggles my mind.

I got one last week that looks suspiciously like that except mine was from Verizon Wireless (my wireless provider)

In every choice I had to take advantage of the "settlement", I would have to add a year--or more--to my committment to Verizon. The real deal breaker for me was that my "part" in the settlement it could be transferred to another person--anybody who was willing to sign at least a year contract could get the money off--only about $15.

I also got a notification recently that said I had won money in a sweepstakes. What made this one different from the zillion of these I've gotten in the past is that there was a very realistic check for $2900 enclosed to "help take care of the handling expenses". Since the check had a Bank of America logo, we took it there to check it out. According to them, the check is indeed depositable--but not collectable--and causes a security problem for your account because it somehow transfers your information to the person who sent the check when it is sent back. They kept the check and the letter to send to B of A...just another scam.

"If it seems too good to be true..."

Wow. I just got something in the mail this week that said it was a class action lawsuit settlement. I didn't read it. Just set it aside to look at later. I so wouldn't have thought it wasn't for real.

Thanks for posting.

If it is a real class-action suit, they will reference the actual case (Jones vs. WhateverCorp). It would be quite easy to look it up via Google or some such to see if it's a real suit, as suits are part of the public record. Failing that, the notice should also include the information about the court (the "59th Circuit Court of Bumfuzzle, AK") and you could call that court. Don't assume that just because the reward is a coupon or discount that it is fake. I would also think that sending out stuff like this would be against FCC or fair trade regulations, and therefore reportable.

Could this be phishing(SIC?)? I didn't click on the link....but if you were to....

You click on the link, pick out some flowers, if you want a more expensive bunch, you enter your credit card and VOILA!

I think it's real. In FTD's August earnings announcement they make note of the fact that the ProFlowers lawsuit was settled. See the 6th bullet down at:

The class actions that I received payment from included checks in the notices.

I've also heard of people who joined class actions in the beginning and wound up paying out money--not a lot, maybe $10.

I got a $13 check from Columbia House--never even knew about the class action until I got a check with my name on it. I also had a class action from Microsoft, but I don't remember how much money I got. It wasn't much. I think that class action was about how they were licensing their software between the 1st and 2nd versions of Win95. I bought a 1st version of Win95 the day they came out from the company that Rob worked for. It was legal. I wasn't reselling it.

so Hamm, do you need my address to send the flowers to? :D

This reminds me of my late uncle Tommy, he would always call and say "Did you get the flowers I sent you? D**m, I'll never use THAT florist again."

The sad part of this "settlement" is that it's no different than any other $10 off offer they run. Same restrictions, same basic amount of time for the offer (6 months). To me a class action settlement ought to actually cost the company some money and make them feel some pain.
I think ProFlowers got the better end of the deal in this "settlement". All consumers get is $10 off an order. And it can't be used before a big holiday. Big Whoop!! :D

Peweh: Get in line. ;) LOL.
