Thanks-- I guess I need to add more weights. I should have known it was too easy.

This is a dumb question but I am new to strength exercises -- I use the Cybex machines at our health club. Someone told me if it's too easy to do more sets, but then I read about how it's so important for women to be strong (I'll be 50 this year) so you should add more weight. Any thoughts on this one?

I'm not sure I completely understand your question, but if you're able to complete a set of 10-12 reps easily, you're not lifting enough weight. The last few reps of every set should be difficult. And I think it's a myth that women should do more reps and sets with less weight, even if your goal is just toning. Does that help?

Hey, ewatkins!

Adding more weight increases strength and builds muscle; adding repetitions only increases endurance. Since weight-bearing activity helps to keep your bones strong, you should add weight, not repetitions. You won't get bulkier, just more toned and powerful http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
