I knew this weekend would be a long, tiring one but didn't have any clue that I would end up flying down the mountain face first. We were doing coaches' clinics this weekend and on Saturday our coach decided to take us into the bumps (moguls). I've never been a fan of bumps but off I went picking my way down. Next thing I know I hear the distinctive sound of my binding releasing and the thought in my head was "Oh, no, that's not good and I'm facing straight down the mountain!" So, I landed on my face and chest, arms outstretched and started sliding head first. I knew I'd get stopped on one of the bumps so I just started laughing. It didn't hurt too badly then but between that and just 2 intense days on the mountain I am one sore puppy. I can barely move and stairs are even worse. My calves are cramping periodically and I think ibprofen will be a very good friend of mine for the next couple of days.

So, though I love skiing, this was a reminder that I'm not immune to some pretty good crashes. I was being watched by 8 of my fellow coaches plus a coach from the US Ski Team so it was a bit embarrassing, luckily there were 4 good crashes from coaches through the weekend. I only wish I wasn't out of wine since I can't buy any on Sundays.

I have never been so sore all over as when I first went skiing. Nor have I slept as hard at night.

Ouch! So glad you weren't hurt seriously. If you lived near here, I'd bring you a bottle of wine!

OMG, I almost didn't open this thread because for the life of me I couldnt' figure out what a faceplant could possibly be! So sorry you're hurting but glad to hear it wasn't worse! Next time be sure to plan ahead and have wine in the house! Feel better!

I thought a faceplant was what I've been known to do on water skis! Ouch! Hope you feel better soon ---

Me, too--I thought it was spam till I saw who posted it.

I feel your pain. The very first time I went skiing, I hit ice all the way down and broke my back in four places. (Yes, I did ski again, many years later, going much more slowly!) I'm so glad you weren't seriously hurt.

Go have a hot bubble bath, wine or no wine!! :D

Glad you weren't hurt worse.

My lab suddenly took off in the other direction a few weeks ago -- I went face first onto a concrete driveway. My aleve was my friend then too. Feel better.

Oh, ouch, that sounds more painful than my fall!

Hehe, I never even thought that people might not know what a faceplant was but the more I think about it the more I realize it is fairly exclusive to sports like skiing (whether its on snow or water).

I took a bath with epsom salts and will be in bed VERY early. I seem to forget on my weekends in the mountains that I need to plan ahead for alcohol. I MUST get better at that. Oh, well, at least I'm still laughing about it. :p (At least until I try to get out of bed tomorrow.)

and I hope you're not TOO sore! Sorry about the fall, and it sounds like lack of wine was even worse! Feel better! And soon! ;)

Yes, well, apparently I've been in the medical field too long, because when I saw the name of the thread, I was thinking "face TRANSplant" :o ....

Hope you're not feeling too sore today :) .

Actually, Clara, that was my first thought also, but I couldn't imiagine why Robyn was bringing it up and had to look.

Robyn, I wasn't moving at the time and I had to let go of the leash when she pulled so hard, so there was no momentum to add to the fall. I just don't bounce like I used to. I got a wrist sprain, scraped hand, knee and elbow and a pretty sore shoulder and a determination to not let that happen again. ;)

Hope you're feeling better this morning.
