View Full Version : Anyone else getting BOMBARDED with political phone calls?

We must have gotten 25 phone calls just today. I would have just left machine to answer but was waiting for a call from DH to pick him up. The sheer number of calls has gotten to be very intrusive. I wish there were a Do Not Call List for political calls/ads. In our area almost ALL the calls are Republican in origin which, if for no other reason, would cause me to vote the other way. Anyone else being pestered?

I got one today. And I haven't had any others up to this point. Not sure why? (But I'm not complaining!! :D ) Although I will be glad when tomorrow's over.....

Maybe it is just a NJ thing since our Senate race is so close. Oh well just one more day....

I have not recieved a single "vote for X" phone call this pollitical season, but that has probably a lot to do with living in Japan. It is truly one advantage of living overseas.

I get at least one per day, but only for the senate race. I told a friend yesterday that if I get one more call or piece of junk mail from Harold Ford or Bob Corker, I'm gonna get out the Uzi. For the last 10 days or so I have gotten junk mail from both of them every day. Several days I got two DIFFERENT pieces of junk mail from BOTH. Lordy I'll be glad when tomorrow is over.
Yes, we've been getting on average about 2-3 phone calls a day, ALL for Rick Santorum.
I cannot wait until tomorrow is over so the calls, TV ads and junk mail are done!

I have complained on this on other threads-they are driving me crazy! We must get at least 5 a day. I know they have been calling when I get home and the answering machine is blinking '5'. Five messages from candidates, running for things like district judge. DH and I joked that we wouldn't vote for anyone who called us, but by now there would be noone left to vote for! My kids have gotten freaked out listening to some of the messages from a 9/11 widow and a mother who lost her son in Iraq-they think they are people we know.
You would think that with all the bad press telemarketers get that the candidates would think this isn't the way to go?

Oh yea, I get calls from the Govenator, Robert Redford, Rob Reiner...who knew I had such strong ties to Hollywood? The mayor called the other night and thought maybe he was going to ask me out, now that his divorce his final. Alas, it was just another recording....

We've gotten these every day, several times a day for over a week!!
What is making it worse than usual is that my mother (out of state) is in the hospital & not doing well. I'm dependent on other relatives who are there to keep me up to date. Every time the phone rings... my heart lurches... & I have to answer it. Arghhhhhhhh!!!!
Yes! I will vote tomorrow & your calls mean nothing to this already informed voter!!!!!

I only have a cell phone so they haven't gotten ahold of that number as of yet. I really dislike our current system of campaigning and wish there were a better way. Creating this many disenchanted voters can't be good for voter turnout.

Canice, that is soo funny.
Yes, we have been bombarded with mail and phone calls down here in Fl. also. I do wish there was a law against invasion of privacy  . I also took call alert off so DH could reach me while I "tried" to take a nap. 5 calls in 45 min. Gave up trying to sleep. Yes, I will be very glad when tomorrow is over. Ugggg until the next election. Maybe I will give up the phone and go back to using smoke signals. Let's see. Is that one puff for hello or two?

I've been getting them non-stop as well. I always ask the live person calls who they represent and tell them thanks for helping me to make up my mind, I've decided to vote for your opponent because he doesn't annoy me. Seems to get them off the phone rather quickly.

I've never heard of getting phone calls before on the subject. Lots of junk mail for sure but never a phone call. Perhaps paying a little extra money for an unlisted number has finally paid off.

Betcha he asked you out!
(oh, wait--your name is Ralph. Never mind. Maybe. :D )
My favorites are the ones from the candidate's spouse and children. I would EXPECT them to support the candidate!! So wouldn't that phone call be a huge waste of money?? In my state, the choices for governor are all poor; I'll be voting for the least of all evils b/c if I don't vote, I can't complain about the outcome.

Same here, Sue! We've also had several anti-John Murtha calls, too. Of course I blame all of the Republican phone calls on DH and he blames the Murtha and Casey junk mail on me! ;)

We are unlisted but still got some calls, however, CALLER ID took care of those! Don't know how I ever lived without it.

Yeah, but did you get a call from Joe Piscopo?? Asking you to vote Republican??? Only in Jersey folks, only in Jersey.
His call was followed up by one from Tom Kean Sr. who is absolutely lovely so that kinda made up for it. I guess.

Rudy Guiliani (SIC?), John McCain, Newt Gingrich, The Right to Life Committee, George Allen, just to name a few that I remember. They wouldn't let me get a word in and just hung up when they were finished. HOW RUDE! :D

Yeah, i couldn't believe that one either. Why would they think Joe Piscopo could influence my vote??
That was followed up by several calls from PAT BOONE! Republicans are looking far and wide for "celebrities" I guess.

Thank goodness for caller ID and voicemail - we must be getting at least 5 calls a day over the last week. Geesh - do those calls actually persuade anybody?!
My proposal: Start a grassroots effort to create a "Do Not Call" list for political campaigns. :D

While I do think the sheer volume of calls is annoying, some of them are interesting. We've had the First Lady and several cabinet members call... but for me the most intersting ones were the actual candidates themselves calling. Not a message- a live person. From both parties, reminding me to vote and asking if I had any questions. I told DH we must be on both registries as undecided voters- as we get an equal amount of calls from both parties.

Don't we wish! But the court said if political speach was infringed they would have to eliminate the entire DNC list, so it is worth phone calls every other year not to have them every other day!
I have only gotten one nasty call from a robodialer telling me to vote for Michael Steele because Cardin wants to do medical experiments on babies. Really? You didn't leave out a few details there Sparky? He also used the phrase "the cruel death tax" about 80 times. Sorry, if Paris has to opt for the cheaper gulf stream because she pays taxes on the money she gets for being born, not so "cruel" in my opinion.
This time of year makes me want to kiss my Tivo. I live in MD so we not only get the commercials for our races but also those of Penn and Virgina; both of which are slugfests this year. I watch all the adds at three arrow fast forward and giggle softly to myself as I think about how much of their money I am wasting! Yippee

Cell phone so no calls, thank goodness and no junk mail which is odd. I can't wait for today to be over, I can't stand all the advertisements on tv and the candidates harassing me at the freaking train station.

I must admit, I was FLOORED when I took the subway last week at 8 am (and I live in the Tatooine part of Brooklyn), when walking in through the turnstiles, I was handed a flyer for a US Representative candidate, turned the corner to continue up the stairs and there HE was, glad-handing everyone walking by. I must admit, every single person who had received the flyer was up on the platform reading it, when usually these things get thrown away immediately.

Bill Clinton called us yesterday, too, Ralph. :D
We've actually only received 4-5 calls this time around, mainly because there are only two really tight races in our district: one for governor, and one for Cook County board president.
I will be very happy when this day is over!

I got another call around 3 pm today, reminding me that it was Election Day and that, if I hadn't voted, I should do so! Caller ID and voice mail picked it up.
I voted early this morning, so my vote was already cast!

No calls this election, but was the last one. No celebrities either, darn. My po box was filled though. I really should have saved them so that I could line Cordel's cage.
