In May I gave birth to my 2nd child. I am breastfeeding and got my first period last Tuesday. I am STILL menstruating.

Today is day 8 of my period. The first 2 days were heavy and it's slowly tapered. For the past 4 days I've only been spotting. Is this normal? I could not find any information on what the normal amount of time a person should have their period.

I used to have my period maybe 6 days before becoming pregnant with my 2nd baby. This is really frustrating not knowing when my period will end.

Thanks for your time. :)

PC-

I am on week two or is it three?   Granted, it has been mostly spotting, and light, but I am ready for it to be over!!!

I feel your pain.

You are still full of hormones from breastfeeding so your body isn't going to do what you were used to it doing. I have 8 day periods as a normal thing - while I was BF'ing, I had no idea when I would menstruate or for how long. It got old really fast.

I can definitely empathize about this - maybe your OB's nurse could give you a confirmation about what's average.

I'm glad someone else brought this up. I've been having spotting for 2 weeks now, off and on. Cramping, too. I am still BF'ing (Anna is 21M old). I saw my midwife last week for a regular annual exam (thankfully, that day I wasn't spotting) and mentioned it to her. She wasn't really surprised, but recommended at least a 600mg supplement of calcium in addition to my regular multi-vitamin. She explained the reason, but I can't remember other than it was related to my not having had any menstruation cycles since Anna's birth.

I remember a never-ending period as my first one after DD was born. I was breastfeeding and SO mad that my period had started at all ( DD was only 3 or 4 months old!! ). Anyway, I believe that after that first one, things normalized again. Hang in there and if you are truly bothered or concerned by it, give your OB/GYN's office a call - that's what they're there for!

Thank God!!! I appreciate your responses. I'm still spotting and glad to know that this is probably a normal response, sigh.
