I checked FAQ but didn't see anything on the folder icons in the Left hand margin on message titles. I've seen red ones, plain ones, and an animated one that looks likes flames. Can anyone tell me about these?

The plain folders are the standard folder icon. The folder turns to a flaming folder when the post gets more than 10 responses. The red folders are somehwat mysterious. Not all people have seen them. They are supposed to indicate posts that have new responses since your last visit. I have only had them show up once, however.

Thanks Laura. Makes sense now. Would think that would be a frequent question (-:

One more question Laura. Why is the subject red in some notes and not in others? It doesn't look like it's because they've been answered.

I think the subject line is blue when you have not read it and red if you have. It is a way for you to tell what you've looked at at a glance!

Forgive all the questions; I'm a newbie http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif

Can you tell me what an ICQ No is? And why, when I delete a thread it remains. FOr example; I deleted this one and "How do I keep last 10 folders" but they are still here. The only one I didn't delete, and which is getting no response, is "Clafouti disaster".

I m not Laura, but I don t think she ll mind (I hope) if I take a stab at a couple of these Qs. Welcome, by the way!
1. re ICQ: Jen posted a message several weeks ago where she explained ICQ very well. I will just quote it here (thanks Jen! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ). She wrote: ICQ is a real-time chat program. You run it on your computer, then "call up" people via their ICQ number so you can type messages back and forth. Kinda like email, but more interactive.
2. About deleting threads - only the Cooking Light staff who monitor this post (known as administrators) can delete posts. It s a good thing anyway if these threads remain for a while, because I m sure you re not the only one with these questions. This bulletin board technology is pretty new to many, if not most, of us!
3. About your clafouti post - you will probably get a response to that before too long. Sorry to hear that it didn t turn out well. Clafoutis can be so good (esp. cherry) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif ...

Thanks Natasha,

Hmmm, I doesn't seem make sense to offer a "delete" option if the SYSOP is the only person permitted to do so.

Usually the originator of a thread can delete a thread they start, even without the permission of the SYSOP. Wonder why they offer the option /-:

Mike,

I don't think they offer the option really. They bought this Bulletin Board program somewhere pre-written, and they probably had the option only to enable/disable the delete function. They probably made the decision that they wanted to be the only ones to delete threads, so they disabled it for us, but I'm sure there was no way to delete the entire option - it's probably hard-coded into the software.
