Well, I can see you all guessed it...I'm no longer a "Pregnant Susan"!

Erin Evelyn Dailey decided to join the world at 10:59 pm Thursday night. I actually started feeling the contractions about 6:00 Wednesday night...well, you know how I was thinking she'd be late, so I didn't know if it was the real thing or not. Jay was at a softball game so I consulted one of my books that said if you can feel the contractions in your back, and they're not relieved by a change of activity (i.e. if you can still feel it when you get up and walk around) then it's the real thing. So I called my dr's office and they paged her. She told me to sit tight, time them, and keep in touch with her. Well, they continued all thru the night, and neither of us got any sleep, and by morning I knew that would be the day. I actually tried to get on the BB Thurs. morning to let you guys know, but I was having trouble w/our connection from home and between the contractions I just didn't have the patience to keep trying. By the time I checked into the hospital at 5:00, I was 4 cm and 80% effaced. Started pushing at 9:15, and she arrived 1 hr. and 45 min. later! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

One piece of advice I can give you is YOU WANT THE EPIDURAL!!!!! It only took about a minute to kick in, and the difference was like night and day. The pushing part really didn't hurt very much, it was just sooooo exhausting (which I'm sure wasn't helped by the fact that I hadn't slept in 2 days). Jay informed me that I didn't poop (just thought I'd throw that in since we were all very concerned about it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif).

We got home from the hospital on Saturday afternoon and everything is going well. Saturday night was a little touchy, she was up most of the night wanting to nurse, but last night was great...I actually got about 6 hours of sleep. She is such a beautiful little angel, I can't believe she's ours! Sometimes I just sit and stare at her (like right now, I just fed her and now she's asleep in her car seat).

Susan, I noticed that you're pretty close too. Congratulations! As hard as it is, it really is a wonderful and rewarding experience. Even now the most vivid memory of the whole thing is the moment they put her on my stomach for the first time.

Well, I'm going to go grab myself some breakfast before she wakes up. I may not be checking in as often as I did before, both because of Erin, and because our internet connection at home is so annoyingly slow. We don't have a digital camera, but Jay starts his new job soon and I'm hoping someone there will have a scanner so I can scan some pictures of her and email them out. If you want, send me your email address and I'll email you some pictures when I can.

Best of luck to everyone...Susan, you're next, and then I can't wait to hear from Krista & Marisa too! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

p.s. Kim, I looked at your website...it's great! We really need to get on that, maybe I'll make it my maternity leave project. By the way, any progress so far on the baby project? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I just had to say congrats! I never posted on the pregnant Susans thread (mainly because I am terrified of kids, having them, raising them, etc), but I lurked enough to be amazed at this whole process. I am so happy for you!

Susan:

Congrats!!!! What a beautiful name. I'm so glad that you and the other ladies have allowed so many of us to "eavesdrop" on your pregnancies. I've come to the conclusion that we will probably not have any children (long story) and I have really enjoyed reading the stories that you have all shared.

Enjoy your time off with your new daughter and, please, keep us updated as you have time.

Susan,

My warmest congratulations! I love your daughter's name- Evelyn is the middle name DH and I have chosen for a girl(it's my grandma's middle name).

Add me to the list of lurkers- DH and I will "officially" begin trying to conceive at the end of the summer and I have learned so much from these posts! Julie

Still here- just having trouble posting. Don't think it'll be long now.

Susan, I am so happy to read your message! It does make me feel better! That wasn't a long time in the hospital at all before giving birth! I hope my labor goes as well. Thanks for the epidural advice. Sounds good to me! Your story brought tears to my eyes when you mentioned your little angel. How exiciting! Enjoy your time with your little miracle!

I've been getting contractions more frequently lately and had a bout of false labor on Friday night, while Kyle was over his friend's house, of course. I changed positions and drank some water and then fell asleep. They were gone when I woke up. I do have other little signs that tell me it won't be long. I go to the doctor tomorrow and I'll let everyone know if things are still progressing. Meanwhile, I'm working from home in my jammies. Ah, modern technology. I love it!!

i've been trying to post my congratulations all day! how frustrating when there's important news!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

but really, congratulations to you and jay. everything just sounds absolutely wonderful. the way you described the birthing process wasn't too scary either http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif erin is a beautiful name, and certainly has a nicer ring than say, 'hailey dailey'. i'm sure she'll appreciate that when she's older http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

she sounds like such a big girl! but that's good - she's healthy! which outfit did you take her home in? hey, i'm just curious... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

also, i'm glad to hear that the ultrasound was an accurate predictor that baby would be a girl. we're going for another ultrasound on monday, so i'm hoping it shows us a girl again...

SusanD, i hope you don't take this the wrong way, because i mean it in the most beautiful, and wonderful way, but you even SOUND different! i believe motherhood has taken over! you just sound wiser, that's all... i hope one day i'll sound like a real grown-up too! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

congratulations again, and get some sleep! (it sounds like you're doing pretty well already!)

I posted my congrats yesterday, but it didn't seem to show up! So congratulations!

Have fun--but remember when you find yourself sobbing while folding socks or watching a commercial about diapers... it's normal! It's funny--Susan DOES sound different! I have to say though--five years later and I STILL look at my kids and think "Oh my lord, I'm the MOTHER of those children, not the babysitter!".

Anyone else getting a little heat wave this week?

Kristi--who went to the beach today in RI!

Congratulations! I haven't had time recently to check the board.....wouldn't you know it happened during the exciting time!

What a relief for you to be done with your pregnancy and have your precious baby in your arms. Thanks for the feedback on the delivery.

I went in for my ultrasound yesterday and it was an incredible experience! I can only imagine the delivery and finally having our baby on the "outside".

Again, congratulations and I'm glad you seem to be getting some sleep.

Thank you so much, everyone!!!!

We're sooo excited, and just absolutely in awe of this tiny little person (who, as I type this is sound asleep in her car seat on the kitchen table). She had her first dr. appointment this morning, and everything checked out A++. I can't believe it's been a whole week already!

A word to Susan, Krista, Marisa, and all the other moms-to-be out there...it's not so bad! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Labor was quite painful until I had the epidural (as Jay was driving me to the hospital I was practically kicking the dashboard), and pushing was more tiring than painful (maybe it was because of the drugs, but I don't remember any pain during that part). You'll definitely want to limit your visitors in the hospital. I had a couple of friends who wanted to stop by and I said it would be better to have them stop by at home. First because you're just so darn tired, and also because you're just not feeling "yourself".

Well, it's almost lunchtime for the little peanut, so I'd better go. Susan...you're next! Keep us posted on how everything goes, and I'll check in again soon! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
