View Full Version : Is this tacky?

Dh has a website that will be live in a couple of weeks. Would it be tacky to include a little business card size note with our Christmas Photo card to our friends and family to let them know - because I know most would want to know.
It would read something like:
DH's new website, <name>.com is up and running!
Thanks!

Gosh, no!!! That's good news that you want to share! (Unless the website deals with something controversial, that is.) :D

Could it be handled separately, by email?
Or you 100% certain it couldn't be construed as a solicitation for business, and that they really are looking forward to visiting his new site?

It seems like it might be easier to handle it in an email plus you don't risk offending anyone plus people have the url right there to click and access.
If you mail out the url, you are going to have lots of people who lose the information anyway so email makes more sense as a marketing tool. When my friends have gone live with a website, they've just emailed everyone with an announcement and the link to visit.

I agree with this--the email link is more effective AND this way it won't seem like you are using the xmas card to solicit business.
If you want to include it in the Christmas card, I'd put together a short letter with some of the year's highlights and include it there. That way, it's part of what you've all been doing rather than just a business plug. An email later would still be apporpriate.

Why not? You're sending to friends and family. It's a great way to share the news.

Thanks!
I should have added - some people will be getting a little newsletter along with the card, but others, will not. We were planning on announcing it in the newletter. The ones who will not have asked me to let them know the url of the website when it is live. Most are neighbors that I don't have e-mail addresses for.

First, ACK! I owe your hubby a review! Tell him I'll look at it more this afternoon (assuming my lovely stomach issues don't rear their ugly heads again today for the 4th day  ). So sorry for the delay!
Given your most recent post I think it's fine to include it. They've asked for the announcement, so why not in the Christmas card?

That depends.
If it is the Mollisfamily Website, then it's fine - news & pics of the family, that sort of thing.
If it is a business enterprise, then no. Family holiday cards are for sending good wishes and sharing the joys of the season, not for drumming up business. That should be done as a separate mailing under his company letterhead.
