FINALLY! We can post!!

Last week was pretty good. I've just finished my Y program, so the challenge will be to keep up my workouts. I'm also considering switching to something else in another month or so - maybe trying super slow weight lifting - something to give my muscles a change and to keep me interested.

I'm supposed to start yoga classes this week, but so far only 2 of us are signed up, so I suppose they may cancle the class http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/mad.gif .

I also bought rollerblades!!! Ack! I think I'll keep it indoors until I get used to it. I'll be posting again soon to ask the rollerblade experts some advice - like how to keep every little pebble from throwing you off balance http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif !!

Last week I got in two run-walks, and hope to get my goal of three in this week. It's much harder to do with the kids, but not impossible.

Eating has been pretty good too! A few bad episodes, but also lots of veggies. I'm sort of on a greens/beans/salmon (but not necessarily all together http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ) kick, so that's a GOOD thing.

Anyone else??????

I have actually been doing my step aerobics daily, and using the "Ab-doer" every other day, for 10 days now. I advanced to the "intermediate" tape on the Ab-doer. I really like this "gimmick" workout! DH hates it, but I didn't expect him to like it. I actually got on the scale this morning and have lost about 4 lbs in 10 days - no change to diet - just the steady exercise. Now, I just have to find a way not to go out of town and get distracted from it again! Well, I have until August anyway and then its off to Hawaii!!

Lindrusso, about the roller blades, I keep trying them on in the stores, but can't bring myself to buy them. My 9 and 6 year olds are pros with them, but I am not as adventurous. I will probably get them in the fall and practice in my basement (I will only have until January though, as we have plans to finish the basement off). After that, there won't be only concrete on the floor.

Add me to the happy list. I stepped on the scale and it actually continued to stay down, despite my eating terribly. Ice cream and a vitamin is a healthy meal, right?! I may hate exercise but it does work. I've stuck to going to aerobics class about 4 times a week and started looking in the mirror. I'm trying to change my mind set and it seems to be working.

Alysha-

You'll feel a lot better about blading outside if you buy all the padding. I never got knee and elbow guards, and my blades are sitting in the basement, mocking me because of it ("ha! You can't use us 'cause you're scared of falling doing stops! Nice use of 100 bucks!"). I did get wrist guards, and even though it looked dorky, I always wore a helmet. But having more padding will give you enough confidence to learn by making mistakes. Also, I tended to keep to bike paths because they're much smoother than sidewalks.

Last week was not so great. I fell off the WW wagon by Thursday, missed a yoga class, didn't do ANY home practice, and we didn't hike at the weekend. Yesterday I sat down and journaled about my dieting experience so far in an attempt to figure out what was making it so easy to stray (apart from the fact that I love junk food, of course!). I've worked out that I need to spread my points more evenly throughout the day. I was trying to use fewer than 12 points prior to dinner, leaving 17 points for my evening meal.

Problem was, I was famished by the time I got home from work and cranky and tired from being famished, so I would gorge on whatever I could find, thinking "forget it; this diet is too restrictive!" I had forgotten that letting myself get starved before eating was pretty destructive to my diet efforts. So I've come up with a Points range for each meal, and am going to eat main meals and snacks at specified times to see if that helps. This week will be my trial of that program. It worked well yesterday, so we'll see.

I think the diet issues went hand-in-hand with the exercise issues. Being hungry, cranky and tired from having too few nutrients during the day really messed with my motivation. Any off-program eating I did was in the late afternoon/evenings, so I was more readily able to blow off exercise since I really was tired. Sitting down and writing what problems I encountered and then trying to figure out how to avoid those pitfalls really made me feel better, and I think I'll see better results this week. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I lost 1.5 pounds last week in my first week of following an eDiets.com diet. I'm thrilled with that result because in the 4 MONTHS prior to that I was only able to lose 3 pounds! The plan is essentially a 1500 calorie a day diet, which helped me realize that I was eating too much to lose weight. I also walked 3 or 4 times last week and did resistance training twice. My goal is to loase 12 pounds by the end of June.

Can someone fill me in on what goes on in this post? I read about it over on the Metabolife post.

I'm currently enrolled in a program through our military hospital called Lean & Light. I went for three days (all day) and worked with nutritionists, psychologists, sports medicine people. We now have weekly follow up sessions to weigh in, talk about our problems, successes, etc.

I started the program the first of April and I have lost 11 pounds!!! The first week was teh biggie, but since then I have generally lost about a pound a week. I'm finally feeling like I am starting to get a grip on why I eat and how to avoid it. Like the psychologist told us "there are no bad foods, just too much of them". I am so much more conscious of what I put into my mouth now.

The nutritionist took a survey of what a normal days food was prior to starting this program and analyzed it and then gave me a number of calories to eat (1800). I have a hard time eating that many "good" calories, but usually come close. I am still losing weight and am actually satisfied with what I am eating. I cook a lot out of CL. I do have the occasional small bag of chips or something sweet, but have learned to substitute different things in place of them.

Anyway, I hope that this what this post is all about. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Bosunswife,

Yes, you've got it! We just check in here weekly (or almost weekly) to discuss how we are, or are not, meeting our fitness goals. We look for and offer encouragement and advice as well.

I'd love to be part of a program like you described - it sounds REALLY wonderful. There's WW and there's personal trainers, but this sounds like it's got EVERYTHING! WOW!

Anyway, welcome and we look forward to your input. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi folks,

I'd like to join in too- I take my healthy living support wherever I can get it! I'm in a 2yr. hospital-run exercise/weight management study where they're trying to figure out how much exercise it takes (both time- and intensity-wise) to maintain a healthy weight. At this point, we're in the getting to a healthy weight part (the first six months).

Basically my "prescription" as they like to call it is 60min. exercise (5x/wk= 300min/wk total), 1200 calories/26g fat per day. The exercise (treadmill for me- they gave us a free one!) has been gradually increasing but the calories/fat has stayed the same so far. It's week 17 and I've lost 17lbs. so I'm on track but it is a struggle. I'm finally back at a healthy BMI! Hurray! At this point I'm looking to lose about 12.5 more pounds but I'm also thrilled to be where I am.

Anyway, it'll be really nice to have this as a place to share the daily/weekly ups and downs of trying to make behavior/lifestyle changes...thanks for keeping it going, lindarusso!

I think this is great, and I need something to really get me going here!! I must get more active again, get some weight off. Friday at work I walked more than usual and I have to say my endorphins kicked in and I felt good. Ive got to make a promise here (or I probably wont do it). I am going to give a dance teacher a call and get back into it instead of "feeling sorry for myself" after work. Monday or Tuesday I'll do it and if I keep you all posted, it will help me to remember and give me a little more incentives. Thanks all of you!!

I've always read your guys' posts but never have joined in until now...I need some motivation, so I'm gonna try this. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I know it is almost time for week 8 bow that I finally get around to posting for week 7, but that's oaky. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Anyways...I had a pretty awful week. I just haven't been able to get myself motivated to exercise. I had an injury in the earlier part of this year and it's been hard to come back from. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif I actually had to give up my favorite sport because of it, so it's been hard on me emotionally--I'm nearly crying as I write this--as well (not to mention the physical part and gaining a bit of weight http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif). But I've pretty much accepted this and am hopefully going to try something new very soon. In the mean time though, I'd like to loose about 15 pounds....this will still be 10 pounds heavier than I was at my thinnest (but I was extremely thin) due to alot of time spent practicing RG. My basic plan is to mix up my exercising so I don't get bored---cross trainer, tae bo, treadmill, bike, step, etc. I'm pretty good about eating most of the time, but occassionally (like today at Mother's Day party), I just give up and totally pig out which is really frustrating. But one overly large meal won't kill me, so I'll get over it. I absolutely LOVE fruits and veggies, so I am able to maintain a pretty healthy diet usually.

I hope that you guys will help to keep me motivated!
