Hello everyone-

I am still (three weeks later) recovering from my gallbladder surgery because I have had some complications with an incision becoming infected and just plain slow healing time due to my low white cell counts after chemo and radiation. I am absolutely going crazy because I can't work (heaving lifting in the bakery is a no-no) and I haven't felt energized enough to go back to nautilus and spinning and swimming (which I just love).

I need some suggestions for simple exercises that I can do (maybe even in a chair or in bed!) and also just some hints for overcoming boredom. I am especially upset because I had planned a trip to visit my sister in San Francisco today as I recovered and now with the infection I can't go Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Becca,

I feel so bad for you! I hope you start to heal soon.

After my surgery, I didn't have the problems you are having. I was so sick for so long that I had lost 30lbs. So after my surgery I was just happy that I wasn't throwing up after I ate! (Sorry for the graphic detail).

I did start walking in my neighborhood, but I couldn't go far from the fatigue... stairs were a huge no-no so it really limited me, too.

Sorry I wasn't any help and again, I hope you start your recovery soon!

Just wanted to offer sympathy/support as well! I will let you know if I come across any activities on my internet travels. I'm SURE there's something out there....

Do you know (or can your doctor refer you to) a physical therapist? They can often help you with exercises tailored to your current ability, including gentle exercises that can be done in bed.

My heart goes out to you. From everything you have written it sounds like you have really been through the wringer in the last couple of years, but you have such a great attitude and are really an inspiration.
