Hey all, just wanted to do a little update. I never received a response from CL to my email, so I am guessing they are not interested. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif Oh well, I am still really looking forward to it!

I would like to compile a list with each runners city and goal. Here is what I have so far: (I may have missed some info from the old thread and guessed on others, so correct me on any mistakes)

Name City/State Goal
Emily GA
BernK Auburn, NY
SusieO
SusanMac
Mpuskar
Laura 30 min
Gina Jefferson City, MO

I would really like to know where everyone is running to see what tpye of geographical dispersion we have. And remember, the goal is very indivudual as we have lots of different runners here. For my first race, a two miler, my goal was to finish without stopping to walk.

One last note, it is not too late to join!!! The more the merrier. Go to www.ymca.active.com (http://www.ymca.active.com) . Gina

Great idea to start this thread, Gina!

Well, I suppose I'll hazard a goal statement here...

I'd like to run it in under 22 minutes (that's my goal for the summer, anyway) -- but since I can't exactly do any speedwork right now because of my hamstring, anything in the 22-minute range would make me happy http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Gina, you are doing a great job of motivating us for this race! Thanks!

I'll be running in New Port Richey, FL, and I'd like to finish in 28 minutes.

Well, I am still trying to decide what will be a realistic goal, and may have a better idea after tomorrow. Yesterday I ran a 3.4 mile course with the intention of timing myself and using that time to set my goal.

The course is a "rails to trails" trail that runs through the city of Columbia, MO and is extremely popular. While running, I saw an acquaintance I had not seen in a few years and stopped for a brief talk. I forgot to stop my timer, so I do not know exactly how long I was not running. I am going to run the course again tomorrow and ignore old friends!!!!

At this point, my dream would be to finish in under 30 minutes, but am thinking at 32 or 33 might be more realistic. Gina

Okay, I didn't want to actually put my goal down "on paper" because that would seal the deal! But here it is: I'd love to finish in 28 minutes, but I think I'll say 29 minutes, just because the shin splints have kept my running down to once a week. I see the new PT on Monday, but I'm still running in the meantime. If he tells me I can't run, period, for awhile, then I probably won't even be doing this race. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif But for now, I am definitely planning to do it (in Eugene, OR), and I'm saying 29 minutes.

I'm so glad that I saw this message! I've been out of town on a research trip and staying at a hotel off the highway for the last week so I haven't been running at all! Well, I did run once on the hotel treadmill, but it wasn't the same. I also hurt my calves about a week ago (don't ask me how--maybe all of the hours of driving I've been doing) so that didn't help with the motivation. Anyway, after seeing the post, I'm determined to get back on track and get ready for the quickly-approaching race.

Here's my location and goal: I'll be racing in Chicago on the big day and my goal is to finish my first 5k!

I'm really nervous, even mores so since my training schedule has gotten thrown off, but I have a really easy question: if you start walking, are you immediately eliminated? Is it a race faux pas to finish the race if you've had to walk? I am clueless about this race stuff.

Best,
mpuskar

Good gosh, no! There is nothing wrong with walking, and you should absolutely go ahead and finish the race, either walking or running. Besides, most of these shorter distances (<5K) are run/walks, so both runners and walkers participate together.
