Has anyone heard from Susan since Tuesday? It's Friday now... I'm guessing she had the baby. Does anyone want to make a bet if it's a boy or girl? I'm going to guess a boy, even though I never saw her in her pregnant state so as to use an old-wives tale about how she carried the baby!

Hope all you other pregnant ladies out there are feeling fine. I had the 3D ultrasound yesterday, but it wasn't as cool as I expected. They could only give us a 3D model of her face, and it just sort of looked like one of those topographical maps, where the bottom is flat and you can see some 3D curvature. In any case, my fluid increased since last week (I now have over 3x's as much as 'normal'!) We didn't get to speak to the perinatologist afterwards because he had to go to the hospital, and I"m still waiting to hear from my doctor (she was in surgery this morning). I'm curious/nervous to hear about how the increase will affect my pregnancy timeline (i.e. WHEN are they planning on inducing?)

By the way, for any of you lurkers out there, did any of you have your labor induced? What can I expect? I'm really kind of nervous about it.

Also, on a sorta downer-note, we got the official word today that our agency is closing on June 1. On Monday, we had some hope of staying open until October, but that's not going to happen. I know everything will work out for the best (i.e. I can stay home with the new baby and not feel guilty about going to work, or not wanting to go to work, or whatever). It's just unexpected, that's all.

Well, I hope everyone else is doing well. I can't wait to hear from MrsReber and her little bundle of joy! I know that she and Kyle must be so happy! I'm very excited for them!

Hi Marisa. Sorry to hear about your job, but you're right, it may turn out to be a blessing in disguise! They stay small for such a short time, I was so happy not to miss even one moment!

I was induced for my second pregnancy. My water broke and I didn't go into labor after 24 hours, so they induced to decrease chance of infection. I've heard that it can make labor more intense (read painful), but I don't know if it did or not - it all seems intense after a certain point!

It did seem to take longer to get to the pushing stage than with my first, but each labor and delivery is different, so I don't know if it was the Pitocin or if it was just different. I didn't have an epidural (by choice), so I don't know how it works when you have drugs.

I don't think that was much help, but I didn't notice anything significantly different being induced vs. not being induced, except possibly length of labor.

Best of luck!

lindrusso, thanks for your input on the inducing stuff. i spoke to someone at my workplace who was also induced, but she was already at the hospital having contractions when they decided to induce (i think she had pre-eclampsia and they didn't want to chance things...)

I've also heard that the labor pains can be worse, but I don't know if that's a myth or not. Luckily, we've learned a lot of techniques in our childbirth class to cope with the pain. I hope at least one of those methods work!!!

I like the idea of scheduling the birth (as you all know I am so anal-retentive...), but it's still kinda weird. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for everyone's help and kind words...I've needed it lately! Thank goodness for all of you! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I am also thinking that MrsReber has had her baby. As to whether it's a boy or a girl...hhhmmm....I guess I'll say boy for no other reason than that will even out the score. (SusanD and Marisa with girls, and MrsReber and myself with boys) Shoyski, are going to find out what you're having?

My co-worker's wife was induced recently and everything went quite smoothly. She did comment that it was strange knowing exactly when the baby would be born. At one point, they commented that she would deliver in about an hour, and lo and behold, an hour later she had the baby. It's a strange thought that you'd be scheduling the birth of your child in your day planner! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I also went to the doctor yesterday. Everything is looking fine. I've gained 16 pounds so far. It's funny because between the time I first saw my primary care physician, and the OB/GYN, I gained 5 pounds. It was during the holidays, so I was filling up on all the irresistible food. But I like having this little secret! It makes me feel better for some strange reason.

How did you all like your birthing classes? My doctor told me to take it all with a grain of salt, because it seems to be one-sided in favor of natural childbirth. (I'm pretty set on the epidural) She reaffirmed that I could deliver the baby however I wanted. She said, "you can even stand on your head, if that's what you feel like doing." But she said that she's had a lot of people go back to her and say that the classes scared them. I think I'd be more uncomfortable not going to the classes, than going. I want to tour the hospital, etc.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I was given pitocin because I was progressing so slowly and it still took me forever to dilate. I went in not knowing whether I would take the epidural or not and let me just say one thing about that...THANK GOD FOR THE EPIDURAL! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I second this, especially if you are induced -- have the epidural! (Actually, I was induced one time and not the other, and I had the epidural both times! It is a godsend.) Gaye
