I'm always on the lookout for new exercises to avoid that dreaded plateau. Here's one my cute gym guy showed me this morning:
With Fitball (I used a large, 65cm ball) behind you, prop the top of your right foot (laces down) on ball, left leg slightly out in front of you and straight. Yes, you will wobble. It might help to balance yourself by placing your right hand lightly on a wall or holding onto a balance pole.
Bend left leg, being careful not to extend your knee over your toes. Tough, isn't it! By working to keep your balance, you are squeezing your glutes tight.
Repeat with left leg on Fitball.
THe closer in to the ball you keep your balance leg (the leg that performs the squat), the more you work your glutes; the farther from the ball, the more the quads are called upon.
It's essentially a split lunge with the ball. Great for balance and murder on those glutes!
