Hi Julie!

Just wondering if you DH had gotten word about the job in Oak Harbor. I just returned from a coaches' convention in North Carolina, and the cheerleading coach at Oak Harbor has been chosen 2001 Coach of the Year! It's a very elaborate and grueling process to even be nominated; then there are portfolios, interviews, and many, many months of evaluation for the scoring process. Her name is Pam Headridge and she is the sweetest and most wonderful person...

Anyway, I thought of you this weekend and hoped that your husband had had good news!

Hi Liz,

You are so sweet to have thought of us! Here's the scoop: Brendan spoke with O.H. last week and they are STILL deciding. A successful levy and a state initiative mean they have money to create additional positions. The question now is, in which department? Until they know how many History positions they can offer, they aren't saying yea or nay to anyone. So, we continue to wait...

Having said that, we are about 90 percent certain we want to stay right where we are. Some great things have happened in the month since the interview and it just seems that all roads point back here. Brendan has been accepted to grad school (Natural Resource Management) and a school district for which he has been subbing all year really wants to hire him. It would be worth it to Brendan to wait out another year if they don't have an opening this year. He could start his M.S., continue to sub or even teach if he found a full-time position.

We're just finally settling down, making connections, loving being a part of this community. And it doesn't rain http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Seriously though, I don't know what we'd do if O.H. called tomorrow with a job offer. It's still a great job and it would be a wonderful place to live. I guess we'll cross that bridge if we come to it!

I have a feeling, as this is so typical of the whole teacher-hiring process, that we won't know for certain until August. Once, Brendan was hired for a position on a Friday and school started the following Tuesday. We just take it as it comes!

Thanks so much for asking!

Julie
