I just made an appointment with my dr. for a skin cancer screening. It's been on my mind to do this since the thread about suncreens ran a couple of weeks ago and I'm going in tomorrow morning.
Just wanted to remind everyone how important this is!
Also, has anyone heard of or found the new RIT colorless dye that adds SPF to your clothes? I've been on the search for it- I'd like to wash my shorts, tee shirts and some outdoor clothes in it. Every bit helps http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Julie- Thanks for the reminder! I need to make my annual screening appt.- I have to go annually since I had some "questionable" moles removed in the past. A little bit of advice- if you find you need to have a mole removed, be careful about who does it. Depending on where it is, you may want a plastics doc to do it. My dermatologist (who is a great derm, but not a great surgeon, apparently) removed a small mole on my arm and left a nasty scar that a surgeon later told me was totally unnecessary. Thankfully, over the past year it has faded some, but I'm still considering having a plastic surgeon clean it up. Just something to keep in mind....

Very important! I am having a mole biopsied tomorrow that is suspicious - you should make fairly regular visits to a dermatologist or do self-checks! I think skin cancer is pretty treatable if you catch it early enough!

Just came back from seeing my M.D. I'm having a mole on my inner right thigh and a cyst on the back of my neck removed. THe mole is more of a concern- I've been keeping an eye on it over the last couple of years and we just decided not to mess around with it any longer- get rid of the sucker!!
So, I feel better and I have a clearer sense of what to look out for and to be concerned about and what not to, after a good talk with my M.D.
Melissa, thanks for the comments about scarring. We talked a bit about it today. I'm not too concerned, because this mole is in such an out of the way place- only DH would ever get a look- but I'm glad I thought to ask my M.D. about it.
pmmahan, I'll be thinking about you tomorrow and hoping all goes well!
