I purchased High Meadow Organic Butter (USDA Organic) from Costco last week and used it today.
Um. . . . ugh. :( I taste barnyard! Does all organic butter taste like this?? I'm going back to Land O Lakes!

I have found a lot of differences in butters in general. I used to use Land O Lakes and no other store or commercial brand (not including more high end brands) was as good. Since switching to organic I have tried many different ones and many were horrible. I absolutely hated Trader Joes organic Butter.
I usually buy Organic Valley butter and like it and it is cultured. I only buy unsalted, so that could be one factor.
I wouldn't give up on organic all together. It can vary widely just as any butter and some dairies although labeled organic are just the same as any other feedlot, so may not mean quality.

Ew, that defenitely doesn't sound very good!
I've never tried it. Out here (I moved out to WA a year ago) they have Challenge brand. It's less expensive than LOL but tastes the same.

True grass-fed cows do produce a more pungent product (meat/butter/milk, etc.). It is higher in omega-3 and healthier, but some people can't get past the bitterness and game-y and stronger taste.
Organic wouldn't make the difference, but maybe these are grass-fed organic moos ??
I've had sharp cheddar from grass fed and it is an acquired taste...I learned to like it a lot but it is not the mellow stuff of corn fed heffers.

I buy Whole Foods or Organic Valley butters and haven't noticed that flavor.
I like Challenge too if I have to shop in the regular grocery store.

If thats what organic tastes like I will be sticking with Land O' Lakes, or the store brand butter. I shouldn't be having butter but if I am going to use something it isn't going to be anything else and I don't want it to taste like a barnyard.

Organic doesn't "taste like" anything. Wallycat's explanation is the best.

I was loyal to a local dairy's organic butter for years (Straus Family farms, who also supply milk to Cowgirl Creamery for their cheeses) but started looking for less pricey alternatives. Flavor can vary widely among all butters, organic or not, so I tend to stick with the ones I like. I'm currently using Whole Foods house brand (not organic) because the taste is good and the price is reasonable.

We also buy organic at Whole Foods and it tastes good. I think you just got a bad brand.
