Advice on buying a treadmill??

We've decided to buy a treadmill this summer and don't really know what features and brands to look at. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. We would use it for walking particularly on an incline and jogging at a moderate pace most of the time. What do I look for? What kind of features and surface considerations? Which brands are of particularly good quality?.... Thanks!

Consumer Reports did a feature on treadmills back in February 2000. If you can get to a library, I would suggest starting there. They have a section in the article about things to look for when choosing a treadmill such as deck thickness and belt size.

Since the article is old, the models tested are probably discontinued but at least you would have an idea of how to shop for one.
