Don't know if anyone noticed that I've been absent from the boards for a few weeks (but I sure have missed it!) I was recently hospitalized for a week with IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease). I am feeling better now and am back at work (yes, slacking off in the office). But I am very weak, have lost 10 pounds, developed anemia, still can't eat properly, am on a million pills a day, and basicly feeling kinda depressed.

But I'm glad to be back and slowly working on healing.

m4star,

I'm so sorry to hear about your condition (doesn't sound like a lot of fun http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif ), but glad that you're out of the hospital and recovering.
Be good to yourself, rest much and hopefully things will start looking up soon http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Feel better!

Hi m4star,

Please take it easy and don't overdo it. Take care of yourself. As Emily said, things will start looking up soon! Be well soon.......

m4star - Though I'm sorry to hear about your health problems, it's good to hear you're on the mend. Maybe taking recovery just a little bit at a time won't make it seem so overwhelming. Best wishes.

Sorry to hear about the illness and hospitalization. I can understand your frustration and discomfort-I suffer from radiation induced colitits and fat malabsorption as a result of heavy radiation and chemo that I had five years ago. I also recently had gallbladder surgery and developed C. Difficile from being on so many antibiotics, so I understand what it's like to feel drained and weak after losing so much weight and fluid!
I hope that you are able to mend quickly, but give yourself permission to heal slowly and take advantage of this time to read some good books or rent fun movies. Good luck!

Thanks guys! I never realized how much I look forward to taking these 10 minute "breaks" from work to get on this board. I am taking it easy. Life will get better once we get the diagnosis (I am getting a colonscopy soon to determine if it's colitis or crohn's disease). It's terrible not knowing what the problem is exactly. So thanks for the support and I'd appreciate any recommendations on good videos to rent, books to read, or comfort food to try (sorry no dairy). Thanks again!!

m4star - Well, one movie that I can think of that might not be one that would get mentioned is Sliding Doors. It's with Gwyneth Paltrow and I really liked it. Not the same old thing. I also LOVED Sense and Sensibility - if you haven't seen that one yet - it's one of my all-time favorites. I'm sure there are others, but those are two that stand out. Another one I could watch over and over is Steel Magnolias. Of course recommending movies is a bit of a crapshoot - everyone has such different tastes!

Hey someone else who saw Sliding Doors!? I loved that movie.

M4star, sorry about your illnesses. It's easy to get depressed after a hospital stay--here's to hoping you feel better soon!

I would definately recommend the movie "Best in Show". it is hysterical and really a greatt pick-me-up.
For comfort foods I always love baby pastina noodles cooked in broth, campbells tomato soup with saltines or Ritz, and my latest comfort food is cook and serve chocolate pudding made with silk soymilk in place of the milk. It's actually wonderful!!
I just finished reading Anne Tylers new book "Back When We Were Grownups" and that was a quick and fun read. BUT the book that you HAVE to read if you are a foodie is Ruth Reichel(sp?)s new book called "Comfort Me with Apples". It is fantastic.

Good luck with everything. I really understand how awful and invasive all of those GI tests can be. There really is no comfortable way to have them done is there? If you have to have a colonoscopy-be sure that they give you some demerol for the pain!

We will be thinking of you1

m4star, I hope you're feeling better very soon.

Sliding Doors is a great movie. Best in Show is also (except I was pulling for a different dog to win http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif) DH and I laughed hysterically the whole time we were watching it. If you like that one, you should also see Waiting for Guffman and the classic This is Spinal Tap. I recently saw Billy Elliott and loved it.

I just finished reading Amy Tan's latest, The Bonesetter's Daughter. It is as wonderful as her previous three.

m4star,
I noticed http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif, and glad to see you are back and wish the best for you. My best friends' 12yo daughter was diagnosed with Crohn's disease about 2 years ago and she is doing great now.
For a year they didn't know/couldn't figure out what was wrong w/ her. Her stomach hurt constantly, she wasn't hungry and she was pale, frail, weak, and had many fissures that weren't healing. She has been seeing one of the only specialists of Crohn's in the state of Alaska, and it amazes me now-she is doing 100% better.
I am not an expert on this -she does take meds everyday, but now that they know what the problem is she is living a very normal life. I wish the best for you, and hope you are doing well. Hang in there and take it easy on yourself, http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Zinnia
