Yes.... I know similar threads have been done before, but I am looking for specifics. I know not everyone listens to music when exercising but I had a great 45 minute run today. I attribute a great part of that energy to keep going to the music I was listening to at the time: Van Morrison's Greatest Hits. My other current motivator is Steven Curtis Chapman "Speechless". What specific music really seems to keep you going. My music tastes are pretty much all over the board so I am open to anything you have to suggest.

Laura,
I adore Van Morrison, but I never would have chosen a Van Morrison CD to run to- I'll have to try that next time.
Although I have all but put aside the CD player for my runs, on occasion I need the extra push that a wild and crazy album gives me. I'm all about classic dance music when I need an energy boost. Some of my favorites:
Priscilla, Queen of the Desert soundtrack- all your favorite 70's disco tunes!
Dick Movie soundtrack- more of the 70's greatest
The Full Monty soundtrack EVEN MORE 70's!!
ABBA's Greatest Hits
yes, there is a definite theme here!
Gipsy Kings self-titled or Greatest Hits
Any Santana
The Best of Earth, Wind and Fire
Prince The Hits 1 & 2
A new release that I love to blast in my headphones is U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind
I also have several salsa, merengue, and Cuban son discs that are so much fun to work out to. If I want some exercise, but don't want to go to the gym, I can blast Soul of Cuba or Salsa Mundo at home for half an hour and get an outstanding cardio workout from salsa-ing around the living room http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Call it a throwback to my high school days (graduated in 1980), but I listen to only hard rock when I work out. It really gets me going and keeps me going. One of my favorites is actually AC/DC Back in Black, but I also listen to Sammy Hagar and Ted Nugent (although his personality together with his opinions of women sucks, I really like his music).

I recently got the new Wingspan CD, and I just love it. I play it in the car all the time and my 3 year old is learning the songs...its so cute!

I have a question- I would love to run to music, but don't currently have a portable CD player. Which one is best for running-anti-skip. And, how do you carry in? In a fanny pack?
TIA

BosunsWife,
I am totally with you on the hard rock! My gym plays a classic hard rock station out of Yakima and I'm always humming or singing along with AC/DC, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Blue Oyster Cult, Kansas, Styx, etc... it's the best music for weight-lifting! Having three older brothers meant that I was indoctrinated into hard rock school when I was 7 or 8, so I grew up with the greats.
The college men who work out along side me are amazed that I know these songs. I look young for my age and they don't believe me when I tell them I was in high school when Van Halen's "1984" was released- most of these guys were still in diapers http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

The latest RW has a series on the best CD players for running. Personally, I still use my old walkman and just tape the CD's I like and hold it as I go.

I used to use a Walkman, like Laura, with mix tapes of songs from my CD collection that I compiled. But I noticed that my shoulders and neck would get really tired from clenching my Walkman in my hand while I ran. So now, I use an armband radio. I miss getting to pick my own music, but it's much more convenient for me, and keeps my muscles relaxed. Usually, I have it tuned into country music.
