I’m finally closing on my house Friday after what has been 8 loooonnnngggg months since signing the contract to build it. Yay!

I’m looking for a way to store my good china at the house. I don’t use it often enough to want to use up kitchen cabinet space for it. I have a bookcase that matches my dining room table that will go in the dining room, and I wanted to put the china in something attractive that protects it and put it on there. I’ve looked lots of places, and it seems the only type of china cover are those quilted fabric/vinyl white things. Since it will be out on the bookcase, I wanted something more attractive than that. I was thinking maybe even an attractive canvas or plastic box that I could store them in.

Any ideas?
Thanks!

Did you check at The Container Store? I know they have the quilted ones you mentioned but I'm sure there must be other options.

What about those pretty "hatboxes" they have? I've seen them at places like Marshalls, Ross, TJMaxx, Micheals etc. Usually they are with the other storage stuff, such as baskets. I don't think they are really meant to store hats in---but rather as generic pretty storage containers. They come in various sizes usually and an assortment of prints. I got a really big one with a pretty oriental print on it to store craft supplies in---I didn't really have any place to hide that stuff so I needed a container that looked nice enough to sit out somewhere.

They aren't very expensive. I think I got my large one at Micheal's for about 5 dollars on sale?

I would use the quilted boxes for protection and then so they are pretty, I would put them into a decorative box of some sort.

Before when I was short on space I got the quilted things to store china and I had to keep it in a closet like in the basement. Now I have space but I keep my china in the same quilted storage in cabinets. I put protectors between plates. When I need my china is close by ready and clean to be used.
I did notice my Orefords goblets etc stored in a built cabinet in kitchen need to be dusted those I did not store since the cabinets have glass and all glassware looks pretty there. I would recommend the quilted padded storage. Saw them at Bed Bath and Beyond, Linen & Things.
Good luck
