I just wanted to give y'all a quick update on me and the baby... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
As planned, we got to the hospital on Monday afternoon. They admitted me and started me on some stuff to dilate my cervix, as I had made absolutely NO progress with labor, etc. and they wanted to induce Tuesday morning. This was probably one of the most painful things - starting the IV! ouch!!!
Around 3am, they started the pitocin. Around 6am, they upped the dosage. I was a little crampy, but just asked for some tylenol... Apparently, I was having contractions the whole time and didn't feel anything. My dr arrived at 9am - I was only 1 cm dilated, but she broke my water. Remember how much fluid I had though?!? It felt like I was peeing all day long as more and more fluid leaked out!!!
My parents showed up at 10am, but it was okay. They camein the room with me, but nothing was reallyhappening yet, so it was actually nice to have them there to help the time pass! Around noon, I was still ok, but contractions were getting stronger (think really bad menstrual cramps!). That's when my parents left! It was so painful for me that I couldn't keep any even breathing going, so DH went to the nurses to get me some meds! they started something like demerol and it instantly put me out - i slept for 2 hours!
When I got up around 2, I was still in pain, but I had dilated enough to get an epidural. I took it, and then slept for another 3 hours!!! The anesthesiologist didn't want to give me the epidural because i was already so out of it from the demerol!! Luckily, I convinced him http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
When I woke up at 5, it was time to push! This means that I essentially slept through the entire labor process! Fine by me!!! At 6:32, little Amanda Whitney came into this world!!! She was 6 lbs 2 oz and 20.5" long!
Unfortunately, due to all that fluid I had, they whisked her away immediately to suction her and test to make sure her airways were ok, etc. etc. They ended up keeping her in the nursery/NICU the entire time, just to monitor her...
This worked out well for us, as we were able to sleep a lot afterwards, just coming down to the nursery every 3 hours to feed her. They discharged me on Thursday, but didn't let Amanda out until Friday afternoon...It was nice because they let us stay in the hospital an extra day just to be near her...
We were so happy to come home though! I would have posted sooner, but I was just pretty tired... A note to shoyski and krista: if you want any inside info (i.e. the stuff they don't tell you about), feel free to email me directly! i think i can spare the others on this BB!!!
We did bring the laptop to the hospital, along with our video camera, digital camera, and still camera - we uploaded digital photos onto our website asap, but the connection was very slow, so we didn't do too much! sorry for not posting sooner - the slow connection was killing me!
thanks again to everyone for all the well-wishing! it really worked! the whole process wasn't bad at all (it helps when you can sleep through the whole thing, in my opinion). in any case, the 'end product' is well worth it. we still can't believe she's really ours...
well, better go eat dinner and then get some sleep! again, thanks to everyone for all their good wishes and helpful advice!
