Had a good week last week-I fulfilled all of my daily exercise goals, and even though I'm not focusing on diet, my focus on exercise has lead me to make healthier food choices. Example: instead of snacking down on crackers w/ spread when I get home from work, I have a bowl of high-fiber cereal. Not exactly fruit or veggie (but I'm getting plenty of those, so…), but healthy nonetheless. I treated myself to some new shorts and a top for my 2 weeks of fulfilling goal. No movement on the scale yet, but I'm also PMSing, and usually the scale moves up by four pounds during that time. I think Mr. Scale needs to be relegated to the basement for awhile, however. I don't want the lack of movement to get me down and make me quit.

I resolved the walking buddy thing with a compromise: Instead of walking together twice a week, now we just walk together once. It's not really intense, so it makes a good social hour, like what Bev was talking about. And the best part is that my friend is enjoying becoming healthier, so she walks on her own the rest of the week!

Well, I am officially out of my old house and into my new one. So I guess I can't use moving as an excuse anymore. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I'll do as lindrusso did: ignore the past week and focus on my goals for this week! I am planning to get up early tomorrow and Thursday morning, before work, to swim for 1/2 hour. Today, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I plan to get in 45-minute walks before I have to check in with my PT next Monday on my progress (that means I have to start making some!). I also plan to go to kickboxing on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. I'll get in at least two bike rides this week by riding to and from kickboxing class on Wednesday and Saturday. And if I'm feeling particularly ambitious, one or two weight-lifting sessions at the gym as well. (My pedometer was shipped on Saturday, so I'm expecting it any day now!).

Eating? Well, my goal this week is to bring my lunch every day and not to eat out for dinner more than twice between now and Sunday night.

The past month has been BAD for me, but I am determined to be focused and on-track from this point forward.

I had a so-so week....good exercise, bad eating. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif I was forced (well not exactly) to test cookies last week for a friend that owns a cookie company, so unfortunately I had a few too many (they were quite good though http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif). We also went out to dinner last night with the entire family (relatives, etc) and I think I kinda ODed on the garlic bread (which was also really good though). But alas, it's a new week so I'll try to curb the snacking--I notice I say this every week, so hopefully next week I won't have to. It's sorta strange, I usually don't have a problem getting the amount of exercise in that I want to....it's just the eating that kills me. I get so mad sometimes too, like why am I eating this (unfortunately most of the time I still eat it though). I guess it's just my own little "pay back" for the years of eating such a tight diet for dance. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi everyone-
Somehow I can't seem to get both the exercise and eating stuff going at the same time! This past week I focused on bringing down my calorie totals (striving for 1100/day but reaching 1200/day once you count in the weekend increases). This was the first time in over a month I managed to get so close to my calorie/fat goals- hurray!!

As for exercise (which fell to #2 on the list), I started my step class and walked once, but was only able to hit 186 minutes (it's supposed to be 300). I don't mean to whine, but 300 seems impossible to me when I'm trying to accomplish other things too (like, god forbid, clean the house)!!

OK, enough bellyaching- we'll see what the scale says tonight (regular study meeting) and tomorrow (6 month fasting evaluation). I'm adding tennis (90min/wk) to my 80min/wk aerobics so that leaves me at 130 walking minutes- I should be able to handle two 65min sessions, right? We'll see...

Take good care everyone!
Melissa

I think the worst thing about this past week was that I am not eating healthy. I am not eating too much just not enough of the good stuff. I am really in a rut with cooking right now and so I snacking on stuff and not eating enough fruits, veggies, and whole grains.

On the up side, I did get in 3 good runs and 1 bike and lifted 2x. It is quite hot in Colorado right now so I need to exercise early in the am or it just doesn't happen but that is a good thing. Hope everyone has a great week.

One weigh-in down and I lost 1 1/2 pounds. Back to where I was 3 weeks ago, and still at 19 1/2 total (would love to see a round 20) but I'm happy. I feel like I worked hard and saw a result. I also got the results of the initial bloodwork they did when I got into the study and my cholesterol was 264!! That was a good wake-up call for me too- this is about my health too, not just vanity. I needed that perspective!

BTW- I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one having trouble doing "both"- I guess we all have one that is easier/harder in the eating v. exercise world. Thanks everyone!

Well, my DH got home last Wednesday after being gone for six weeks. Lets just say my eating habits got a little bit skewed, but I'm back on track now. Now if I could just get DD's nose to stop dripping so I could go back to the gym (the daycare there won't take her with a runny nose). I swear she has allergies, but her doctor seems to think not. She would definitely come by it naturally (mine are vicious).

Amanda - sounds like you're doing a great job! Keep it up!

Bosunswife - I can't believe they won't take someone with a runny nose - that would mean almost all kids would not be able to go all winter long. I can see wanting to avoid passing germs, but if they are old enough to use a tissue, wash hands and aren't oozing green stuff (sorry), then what's the problem? Imagine if they did that in the schools - everyone would fail!

Anyway...I don't care to review my last week... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif . I'll just focus on my goals for this week. I plan to exercise 5 days this week, with at least 2 run/walk intervals and 3 weight-training sessions. I also hope to squeeze in one yoga session.

Eating could also use some improvment, but mostly it's been lack of exercise that's killing me. But, my busy part is over for this month, so back to work!

Last night was my check in at my weight loss group. I wasn't expecting much since I haven't been eating as well as I was before DH came home. I lost TWO pounds! I was kind of suprised and told my dr. that. He asked why and I told him about eating out, not eating three meals a day, etc. He said eating out infrequently wasn't that big of a deal, but that I should try and get in at least three meals a day.

If I could just get my exercise level back up, I'd really be feeling good.

I'm now down 14 pounds since the first of April!!!

Congratulations! You must be proud of yourself! Keep up the good work!

I am still trying to get a routine going. I did step aerobics 3 times last week. Now that the kids are out of school, I find it more difficult. However, if I can maintain at least 3 times a week, I will be happy. I really need to start using that Bowflex. It's right there in the bedroom closet (we have a large walk in), so I really have no excuse since its not "out of sight, out of mind". Maybe tomorrow ..... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I have had trouble getting to the gym after school, so I got up this morning at 5 and went before work! I LOVED it!!! Im going to start doing that, maybe Ill stick to it better! I did 30 min cardio and 30 minutes weights (arms and back). My goal for the week is just to go to the gym 4 times for an hour....

Congratulations BosunsWife! And Kim, I am very impressed by the early rising...can't manage it myself, but I wish I could.

jazzcat-
A little background (lindrusso or other original posters- please correct me if I'm wrong!)...we use this thread to check in weekly or so about how we are doing on our healthy living (both eating and exercise goals) basically sharing ups and downs and getting encouragement to stay on the "path"...feel free to jump in (jazzcat or anyone!)

Hey there all! Last week exercise was good, ran four times. Eating not as good... I was in St. Croix and ate out a lot.

Still on the road, through the end of the month, but now it is for work. My goal for the trip is to not eat meat till I get back home. The last meat I had was a cheeseburger at Cheeseburgers in Paradise on St. Croix on Saturday night.

Was a little frustrated by dinner tonight though. My coworkers and I went to Chili's and I ordered nachos for an appetizer. I read the ingredients closely and it sounded perfect. Turned out that instead of beans, they used chili with meat. Pretty disappointed by that, and told the manager. It was taken off my check, but I was really bummed about the fact that the menu did not accurately reflect what was actually served.

I have run 3 times so far this week, hope to again on Saturday. Any suggestions for meatless eating on the road would be greatly appreciated. Gina
