Hi everyone, I know most of you from the food board. I knew this board was here, but like most things in my life right now I closed one eye to it. Two years ago today I weighed 130 lbs, BUT.....today I weigh in at 180---not good.
I know what it takes to eat right, exercise, the whole healthy living--I have just lost the willpower to DO it. So I think I will watch and listen to you folks awhile if you don't mind and maybe I will get alittle inspiration and willpower. So, if you don't mind a silent participant. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Hi Carolyn!

Welcome- I'm so glad that you have joined us. Check out the weekly HLSG- Healthy Living Support Group- I've been a lurker there since I joined the BB and it is so motivating.

THere are so many amazing people contributing to the HL BB- everyone is in different stages of discovering their own physical potential and are fired up with determination to live with purpose and in good health- you will find inspiration from all, I am certain.

Watch out, we may have you training for marathons, addicted to yoga, eating KashiGoLean, and buying a stability ball before the year is up! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Warmly,

Julie

Welcome! I bet you won't be able to be a silent observer for long....this BB is adictive. Tons of fun, supportive people with good ideas and broad experiences. I often wonder if CL really knew what they would get when they started this BB. Lots of topics besides cooking. Good luck in your quest for healthy living. Hopefully the BB will help keep you in the right frame of mind (or at least get encouragement when you're not feeling so healthy)!

I'm with you Carolyn. I still fairly new to the BB (here and to Good Food), and am working on finding the inspiration and motivation to make some pretty significant changes in my life. Part of it is facing the big 30, and the other is wanting to start a family. I am really afraid of gaining too much weight, when and if I get pregnant, and possibly becoming diabetic....so, the more improvements I make the better!!! To me, just knowing that there are others out there who are struggling and those that have succeeded provides me with so much inspiration. From my observations on this board, it seems that everyone here is very friendly, supportive, and above all....REAL!!!
SO, here's to the healthy life!
Amy

Hi Carolyn-

Welcome! Lurk all you want…there's a lot of motivation to be found here. People are incredibly supportive here; no one wags her (or his) finger at you when you pop back in after a long silence, even when you admit to exercise/diet difficulties during your absence. BTW, I was thin all through high school & awhile after, but when I turned 25, I started packing on the pounds, so I know what kind of frustration you may be experiencing. The hardest thing for me has been letting go of where I was and focusing on where I'm going. I still struggle with that all of the time. Good luck figuring out what you want & how to achieve it!

Welcome! I am also somewhat new to this board. I come here for support while I'm trying to make a lifestyle change of new eating habits and exercise. I find it very helpful to hear that I really am not the only one that struggles daily with this. Some days are better than others, but I still march on!

Sounds like my story! I left the 3/4, 5/6 body behind a long time ago, but couldn't let go of that image of myself. I was going through the closet one day looking at some suits that I was holding onto because they were very nice. Then I suddenly realized that they were size 2's - sure, maybe they were nice, but there was the small problem of never fitting into them again!

My problems started about the age of 26 or 27. But now, even though I still have more body fat than I'd like, I'm at least at a healthy weight and have some real muscle for maybe the first time in my life (when I was thin, I wasn't necessarily fit). Now I can look back at my photos of me at 150 pounds (which for me, at 5' 1" is alot of weight) and know that I've left that person behind - hopefully for good, without regret that I'm not the skinny person I once was.

Welcome Carolyn! I hope you find this forum as helpful as I have.

Hi Carolyn -- You will find a lot of useful information here. I certainly have -- like information on products I had never heard of (e.g. Kashi Go Lean cereal), reminders to drink lots of water, tips about keeping on track with exercise.

My weight has been creeping up since I turned 40 three years ago. Now I am finally doing something about it. I have lost 6 pounds since January -- not a lot of progress but better than gaining 6 pounds! Plus I am exercising regularly and generally eating well. So I try to focus on that and not on the weight I still need to lose!

I too have been struggling with the weight thing. After having my first child (at 27) I lost the weight easily. My second (at 28)has been a different story. I intially lost the weight but within the last year have put on 15-20lbs. And since I turned 30 it seems to be getting harder. I use to be able to work out sporatically and maintain my weight and not have to watch what I eat. But now I truely think the key to this weight thing is exercise and maintaining a healty lifestyle. That is what brought me hear to this BB. I need the inspiration and support that I am seeing here.

Hi everyone, thank you for your warm greeting!
Do you fine women ever discuss the big "M" word. I'm 46 and going thru it right now and that is possibly alot of my weight disfunction! I don't know if I can go any further with this topic on the BB. is it allowed?? Maelynn are you peeking?

Carolyn:

I am almost 47 and as regulars on this board may remember I brought up hot flashes a few months ago. Soneone gave me some very good advice, I went on HRT, and have never felt better. However, I have noticed it is harder and harder to keep the weight off especially around the middle. Walk 4-6 miles every day and do weights 2x a week and it is still very hard. Too much wine probably! Oh, Well. We'll get through it togheter.
