The Pursuit of Happyness (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/thepursuitofhappyness/)

I am friends with an actor that has a small part in it. I saw the movie tonight and liked it.

The picture below was taken by me at Glide Memorial UMC.

Have seen the previews, haven't seen the film but plan on it, bugs me that there is a word in the title that is spelled incorrectly.

Yeah, that plays a part in the movie. I don't want to reveal its significance and spoil it for anyone.

Haven't seen it yet but DH bought the book while travelling and really wants to see it. I hear Will Smith is already being pegged as next year's Big Oscar Winner for this film!

We will be going to see this movie after Christmas. I'm looking forward to it, big fan of Will Smith's.
I saw the man that this movie is based on the other day on Oprah. What a terrible childhood he had. He endured and triumphed - those are the best stories that show the true nature of the human spirit.

We have not seen it yet, but it's the one thing that DH really wanted for his birthday, so I think we are going to try to see it one night this week. I am glad to hear another good review.

I want to see it. I saw the man, who the story is about, on Oprah with his son. What an inspiration!

I also saw Will Smith and Chris Gardner on Oprah and can't wait to see the movie.

I just watched Cinderella Man last night and found that story also very inspiring. It reminds me how good I really have it and that I should be a lot more thankful than I am (and I do try, but I lose sight sometimes).

Will Smith's son plays the son in the movie - he's just beautiful and had quite the "I'm not impressed by all the fuss" attitude when he was on Oprah - not snotty necessarily, just totally unaffected by all the hooplah. Cracked me up.

We'll be seeing it soon, too. Were you working at Glide, Gumbeaux? The first Thanksgiving DBF and I were together we went there to help in the kitchen: we got the 5:00AM slot, and I was assigned to chopping onions! Great spirit in the kitchen there, that's for sure! :)

(GingerPow, you might check out the review I wrote on the December book thread, if you like stories of success (in every respect) in spite of a horrible childhood.)

Yep, I was part of the Empowerment Journey so I was both working and learning. I remember unboxing gift pears and putting them on the plates in the serving line.

Yes, that bugs me too. We saw a billboard for the movie and I immediately mentioned to my husband how stuff like that (words spelled incorrectly, even on purpose) bugs me. I figured there was a reason for it, and still plan on seeing the movie at some point, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets bugged about stuff like that ;)

DH and I went to see this today. It is a great movie! Knowing it's based on a true story makes it even more enjoyable.

Canice, I've only just read this - I will check out your review! I do love stories showing the triumph of the human spirit. We have the capacity to be magnificent beings.

DH and I saw this last night and we loved it. I loved the messages/lessons that came through, and I loved seeing Will Smith act with his son.

This was one of the most inspiring movies I have seen. To see a character face so much adversity and keep on working instead of just giving up was pretty amazing. I saw Chris Gardner and Will Smith on Oprah before seeing the movie, which made it even better.

I thought this movie was great, but just mentally exhausting! I am often overwhelmed by how much some people must endure.

I saw the Pursuit of Happyness last night ... and honestly, I wish that I had those two hours back. Instead of watching an inspiring movie about a father overcoming adversity, I felt like I was beat over the head with the most depressing script ever written. Chris Gardner (Will Smith) and his symbolic "anchor" began to feel like a running joke after a while, and the ending left me feeling like there were too many loose ends that still needed to be tied up (not that I wanted to stay any longer).

MaryKate - I'm with you. While I thought the movie was good...it sure wasn't a 'feel good' movie (and yes, I knew the story beforehand).

I do think that Will Smith and his son did a good job....but the movie just didn't do it for me

I've heard good things about the movie and would like to see it. However, dh and I get out to so few movies these days, I'll be surprised if we don't have to wait for the DVD. About the misspelled title, I saw it in print a couple of times and then on a marquee at a theatre. I thought, how could someone spell happiness wrong? It's not that difficult of a word to spell. So funny.

The mis-mispelling of the word is on-purpose and is explained in the movie.

DH and I went to see this movie today and we both loved it. We both thought it was a "feel-good" movie. Isn't it wonderful to have someone dedicated enough to succeed? If more people had that kind of perseverence there would be a lot less people looking for space in the shelters at night. I thought both Will Smith and his son were fantastic and the ending was wonderful. I highly recommend this movie.
