My divorced parents will both be at my house on Christmas morning this year (oh joy) and my mom is trying to figure out what would be an appropriate gift for him.
Any ideas for a completely impersonal gift for a 60-something year old man that you divorced over 30 years ago?
He doesn't have many interests. He works (runs a golf course), eats, and drinks. He messes around on the computer and plays with his grandkids.
That's about it.
HELP!

Maybe a desk calendar (like one of those page-a-day things)
Coffee cup/coffee
Bottle of wine
Picture Frame
DVD or CD

First, I'm smiling because my own father used to say, "My needs are simple and my wants are few." However, that doesn't help you.
I agree with Lara's suggestions. My DH and I are about the same age and he would like these gifts. Here are some more ideas:
A book (good excuse to brouse through a bookstore -- always fun)
A magazine subscription (purchase a copy to be wrapped and include a gift card noting that a subscription will be coming his way)
If he supports a charity, a donation
A game he can play with his grandchildren or tickets* to an event he can take them to.
If there are no allergies or food sensitivities, a basket of interesting foods from a gourmet grocery store
Good luck!

* Sometimes a gift certificate can be purchased where the recipient gets to chose the date. For example, for my in-laws 60th wedding anniversary (where diamonds are said to be appropriate), we were able to buy a gift certificate for a San Francisco Giants baseball game. They got to chose the date.

A box of "Beers from Around the World"
golf balls (I assume he is a golfer)
A framed picture of the grandchildren
food gift basket
Good luck with the holiday celebration!:)

Another idea - I got my Dad a Suduku book last year and he really liked it.

Last night my husband went bezerk over the boxes of pears at Harry and Davids. I buy pears at the grocery store--usually d'anjou--and he doesn't rant and rave, but he was captivated.
The store we went into had a single box you could buy instead of subscribing to the fruit of the month club. Rob did say he'd like a gift to the fruit of the month club sometime. (I wish I could give that to him, but money's too tight)
They did have single pears at the register for $4. I got him one of those. He had to eat it at 11:45pm when we got home from dinner and Charlotte's Web. (his favorite movie)
My dad loves DVDS. I think a lot of men do. Netflix gift certificates are great. I'm getting my dad one.
