Square or wide? This will be a 19" flat panel. What are the advantages of one over the other for my desktop PC? I will not be using this monitor for movie watching, if that makes a difference.
TIA!

Not sure about a 19", but on my 15" widescreen laptop vs my 15" square monitor, I notice a difference. Some websites display in widescreen, so I have no problem viewing the whole page on the widescreen, where on the square one, I have to scroll over. I tend to buy the latest technology, and IMHO, that would be widescreen. You never know, you may want to watch DVD's on it, or get a tv tuner in the future for the monitor. Just my 2 cents.

BTW, you may find that the 17" widescreen is comparable to a 19" square too. I prefer my 15" widescreen over my son's 17" square.

We just bought an LG widescreen 20.1" :D monitor and love it. You sure do get a lot more on the screen and it is nice not to have to scroll over to see something. We had a 15 LG before (now on our older computer in the bedroom) and had no problems whatsoever with it.

Good luck choosing what you want.

Thanks for the replies and advice!
One of our laptops is a 17" wide screen. It is our main computer in The Berkshires (although we ONLY get dial-up there....GRRRRR) We got wide screen for that as we do use it to watch DVD's. My son is borrowing that laptop now, until I wrestle it back from him in April.
I didn't think about the other differences you mentioned, funnybone, I should have realized that more of the page would be visible with no scrolling.
I think the widescreen it will be! Boy, the prices have sure come down in the past few years, so we will be going from our 17" square flat panel to the 19".
Once again, the help/wisdom of the CL membership on non-food topics :D
