Any Saab owners here?

I'm driving DH's car today. It is a 5-speed Saab 93, and it has some quirk where you have to put it in reverse to get the key out. I can't get the darn thing into reverse!

Anyone know how to get it to go into reverse so I can get the key out? Help!

Sorry, Lara, I had to laugh. I one time borrowed my aunt and uncle's Audi which I picked up in the parking lot at DIA late one night when I flew in before I moved here. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to turn the lights on! :rolleyes:

So not only can you not get the key out, but you can't back out of your parking space either? Assuming you're pulled forward.

The 5 speeds I've driven usually had a 'spot' where the gear shift would slip into reverse. the last one wouldn't if the clutch was pushed all the way down, but only about 3/4 of the way. Does that make sense? So maybe if you work with it some, you'll find that 'spot'?

OK, I figured it out. There is a secret "ring" around the gearshift, and you have to pull it up. Then it goes right into reverse.

My car was stuck in the garage - I'd run some errands where we didn't have to get out of the car, thankfully, and when I got home I couldn't get the da** thing out. I had to rescue my house key off the ring so I could get into the house!
