Has anyone done Team in Training to train for a marathon/half-marathon? I am thinking about doing this (probably a half-marathon -- right now running 26 miles doesn't hold any appeal for me, but maybe someday), but was hoping to get some feedback on whether it is a good program first. Also, if you can give me any more information about how it works that would be great. How much money do you need to raise? Do you get to pick which event you run, or is it determined for you? How long does the training program last? I have looked at their website, but it doesn't seem to answer these questions.

Thanks,
Claire

I've never done one of these but know several people who have. A neighbor has done the Marine Corps Marathon and the Dublin with Team in Training.

From what I understand the training program is pretty good and is geared for people doing their first marathon or half.

You do get to pick the race you do and I believe the amount raised varies on the race (obviously it's more expensive to go to Dublin than Washington). I believe Dublin was as least $2,000 in donations if not more. Ginger said Dublin was a blast! She's really enjoyed doing these races.

You might have more luck getting specific information about the program in your area by contacting the local offices of the organization.

Sorry I coudn't be of more help. My husband gets flyers for these occassionally - I'll keep an eye out for one with more info.

I did Dublin in October for Team in Training and it was a fabulous opportunity. I had never run more than three miles in my life and hadn't even done ANY running in years when I decided to do this. I'm not sure that they have that many half-marathon events, but they have several for bike rides, marathons and triathlons.

Ireland, Maine, Alaska, Hawaii, San Diego, Bermuda, etc. The amount last year to raise for Dublin was $4,000 and believe it or not---that's the easiest part. Call a local chapter--I know I saw many people from Georgia in Dublin and attend one of their informational sessions. I'm also happy to answer any questions you have about the program!

I have volunteered for TNT in the role of participant coordinator in the past. It is an excellent cause (as you know) and the participants always have a wonderful time. Let me know if you want to know anything specific ... I know that Kristi is also a terrific resource person if you have any Qs! Good luck!

I was curious about TNT also. I've signed up for an informational session on July 18. I'm a little nervous about the fund-raising aspect, but it's such a great cause. I have one relative and one close friend who are survivors of Hodgkin's, and two very close family friends who did not survive lymphoma. Prevention and cure of these diseases are certainly worth working towards!

I have never done the marathons but I have done the TNT century bike rides. I did a ride in lake Tahoe last year and in Santa Fe, NM this year. I know that there are races at different times during the year and you can decide which one you want to participate in.

The fund-raising was never a problem for me although I worried about it terribly! I raised over $5000 both years - the minimum was $3500.

In addition to raising money for a really great cause, having fun and getting in really good shape, I made a friend that is a real treasure!

I recently received something in the mail about TNT and have also been considering it. For me, the fundraising does not seem nearly as big a challenge as the running distance. If anyone decides to do it, I would love to know the race and distance you are planning to do. Perhaps those of us interested can chose the same race and run together. Gina
