They just profiled him on the BBC. He was in an impossible situation, but I think he was a good man at heart. RIP indeed.

The last of the Presidents I have no firsthand memory of...
I was 8 when he became president, so I wasn't paying too much attention at that point.
My memories are of the pratfalls that Chevy Chase did on SNL, imitating President Ford.
And then they'd show all the real clips of Ford falling down the stairs as he deplaned or whatever. Those clips always killed me...........

I also think he was in such a difficult position as president.
I have great thoughts of him, his home is a few blocks from here at my desert home in Rancho Mirage. It is a sad time here. He already has a street named after him.

I will be eternally grateful to the man for calming things down after years of obsession with Watergate. Though critized for pardoning President Nixon, it was absolutely essential to do this so that the country could move on.

Does anyone know if he will be buried in Grand Rapids? I think he was in a very difficult position when he became President. I see nothing wrong with what he did when he pardoned Nixon.

Kay, I didn't see your post. I totally agree there were more important things he had to focus on. Nixon wouldn't of went quietly either, at least I don't think he would of and we are better off for President Ford's actions.

Yes, on the grounds of his Presidential Library.

Thank you. I did finally find it online and heard it on the news after I posted here. I'll probably miss any and all broadcasts of it because I'll be working.

Yes, on the grounds of his Presidential Library.
Actually, it is the Presidential Museum that is located here in Grand Rapids. His library is in Ann Arbor.
I'm already sick of the local coverage of this "event". The news anchors are reduced to blithering idiots competing for the latest "scoop" on the details of the funeral. Yesterday one of the babbling blondes took us on a tour of what you would see if you flew into Ford International Airport and drove downtown for the service. First you saw her legs getting into a car, then fingers turning the keys. Then various road signs and potholed roads. Finally stopping in downtown GR and a spectacular view of all the TV stations radar trucks.
Scintilating, I tell you.

SNORT! Well, it could be worse, all we'll see for the next two days is people standing outside in a blizzard telling people not to go outside.

Oh, for heavens' sake! That's not news, that's...I won't say what, but insert "offensive" instead.
There was a really nice hour on Talk of the Nation yesterday, just recollections of the man and the president, with Cokie Roberts as the guest, as Ford was a close family friend. Very tasteful and dignified.

Yeah, Canice - wouldn't it be nice if we could get that sort of thing locally?? Nope, nuttin but the kneecaps of a local anchor giving us the tour that most of us see every day. After the whole tour, the anchor states "of course, services at both the Museum and Grace Episcopal are private affairs". Well, gee - why give us the .02 tour then, dork??
The museum here is really a cool place - I take the boys at least once a year, and I visit it myself every time they mount a new exhibit.
