Misery loves company and I am miserable with a cold right now! Horrible sore throat, runny nose and all congested. Yuck! But my throat is the worst, I gargled w/ warm salt water, had lemon tea, sucked on both Cold-Ez and herbal throat drops and nothing makes it feel better. Any amazingly wonderful tricks out there? And has anyone ever heard of putting hydrogen peroxide in your ears? What's that about? I will, however, count my blessings that I got this after Christmas and before my next quarter starts so I have the ability to lay on my couch in front of the fireplace and whine.

On my last cold I tried "Sinus Busters" An all natural nasal spray. I have to say it is amazing. You can buy it on www.sinusbuster.com. I have suffered many times with colds tht always turn into sinus infections. This really worked for me. Good luck and get plenty of rest.

I'm drinking pink grapefruit Airborne and trying not to join you in full blown misery. Over ice and with a splash of real pink grapefruit juice, I can actually enjoy drinking it. The original stuff made me want to gag.

Drink hot water with a healthy shot of lemon juice, a teaspoon of sliced fresh ginger, a squeeze of honey, and a pinch of red pepper. I know, I know. It sounds nasty. But it actually isn't bad -- and it works for me!

I totally feel your pain, waking up with a nasty sore throat this morning. Usually, every Christmas, I get the "death flu," where getting out of bed is even too much. This year, the first in five years, I somehow managed to avoid it. I guess if the sore throat today is the worst of it, I got lucky. But I hate sore throats. :(

I'm in the early stages of a cold right now. I really like throat coat tea (http://www.tealand.com/ThroatCoat.asp) for a sore throat. Matter of fact...I need to buy more ;)

I can't give you any remedies, but can join in the misery with you. DH was sick starting Sunday night the 17th, it lasted a couple days, body aches, low-grade fever, etc. The following Thursday night DD and DS#2 got cold like symptoms. Took them to the Dr. Friday because wanted to make sure it wasn't strep as DD doesn't usually complain about her throat and DS#2 can't yet tell me what is wrong. Last Saturday night I came down with the symptoms of DH's virus. Monday I started feeling better (stayed in bed from Sat. night until Monday at that point). Monday night started getting a bad headache and nasal congestion. By Tuesday had a full blown cold/sinus thing going on. Wed. DD was still coughing and not sounding too good and I was miserable, back to the Dr. I got a nasal spray and antibiotic due to my ear (which I haven't started taking yet, but I am feeling a bit better). DD got a decongestant with cough med in it. In the meantime, DS#1 got stomach flu and DS#2 was seeming to get better. DH came down with the cold/sinus symptoms on Tues. night., so he went to the Dr. Wed. too, just a virus, got a nasal spray as he can't take most other decongestants due to a heart condition.

I really hate being on meds, but also needed to function with the entire house sick.

DD is getting better but still a bit under the weather. I am improving, still coughing and a bit congested, but it is improving on tylenol and sudafed, etc.

DH seems pretty well, but run down. DS#1 is fine today and back to eating more and playing, etc.

DS#2 woke up at 5 am vomit in the bed, oh what fun. He seems ok and has kept down pedialyte, banana, graham cracker (small amounts) and a bit of bread. We will see what happens.

I hope this is the end of it.

For a sore throat: 1 glass of water, 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar, mix, gargle and swallow, gargle and swallow, every hour until it starts to feel better. Husband tested to really work.

For congestion in nose and/or chest: Drink pleanty of pineapple juice. Cookieee tested many times/works great

For upset stomach: 2 or 3 slices of fresh ginger in a cup of tea. Tested by many/works really great and fast.

OH MY....Virtual hugs to you all.
My neighbor is at her Lake home in Missouri and she sounded sick last week. She refused to admit she was coming down with a cold...till today. Full blown.

I hate sore throats. I hate colds.
Aspirin is about all I can think of as it kills pain.
There's aspergum to chew on and it might help.
There's also that cepacol?? throat spray that has a numbing agent in it.

Hope you all feel better soon.

Don't have a cold but do have a migraine from the front that is blowing up from the Gulf. Lovely with the added nausea and sinus pressure. The wind is howling at about 40 mph...just waiting for cedar fever to begin!:(

I was also told by a doctor once that the bacteria that causes sore throats "eat" sugar, so no sugary foods (including natural sugars) while fending off a sore throat.....and I have found that when I avoid sugar as much as possible when I'm battling a sore throat, my throat feels less scratchy.....also, check your sore throat drops to be sure they are sugar free. Hope this helps and get well soon!!

I have been fighting a cold since the day after Christmas - too much get-everything-done holiday stress and not enough sleep usually leaves me susceptible. I drink a 1000 mg. "Emergen-C" in a glass of water, or mixed with water and o.j. every two hours and that helps alot. Catching up on sleep helps too! I can feel that I'm kicking that cold.

Hope you feel better soon.:o

It's all making the rounds here too. What is up with the nasty colds and the stomach bugs making the rounds at the same time! One at a time please!

I found that I totally conquered the stomach bug by eating crystallized ginger straight up. Ginger is definitely not my favorite flavor, but I would nibble on a quarter sized piece, and that would take care of the nausea for a couple of hours at a time. If I started to feel it coming on again, another piece went down the hatch. That coupled with ginger ale to keep the fluids going kept the bug manageable for me.

I'm right there with you! I have not been able to sleep well all week due to a sore throat and sinus trouble. It's the worst sore throat I've had in a very long time and the congestion and drainage are downright gross.

But for sore throat pain - one word - IBUPROFEN! I always take ibuprofen for sore throats and I swear I go from barely being able to swallow to quite comfortable. I suppose it works because it's an anti-inflammatory. I found this out when I had the flu - I was taking ibuprofen for my fever and aches and noticed it also did away with my sore throat - a nice bonus!

In any case, it's easy enough to try and it might bring you some relief. I was MISERABLE last night at about 2:30, took some ibuprofen and my throat felt sooooo much better.

My guests are gone now and I can rest again, so I'm hoping I'll start getting better, but if I don't get some good sleep soon, I'm going to be a mess! :(
