I saw Charlotte's Web this week. I loved this gentle movie, a tribute to E.B. White's novel which has enchanted children for generations.
The combination of live action and puppetry was the best I have ever seen, and the stars who spoke the roles were delightful, but most of all I enjoyed revisiting this story of friendship and loyalty.

One of my friend's mother wanted to see this for a birthday gift, so we took her. I really enjoyed the movie. I was surprised to see that it was filmed in Australia, but all of the scenic autumn shots were done in Landcaster, PA.
It certainly didn't detract from the movie, but is a curiosity, to say the least.
It definatly was a children's movie the night that we saw it, and they certainly did make the noise and move around, I only noticed it at times, but I was surprised at how little it distracted me from seeing the movie.

I know it's rated G, but do you think it's appropriate for ages 5 and 6? I'm pretty protective when it comes to the stuff my kids see. So though I loved the book, I'm concerned about the whole dying thing. Is it terribly sad? As in, will they be crushed?
Just curious.

I read Charlotte's Web every year to my 1st graders. They handle the death of Charlotte fairly well. Most children know that spiders only live a little while. The movie handles the death very well. It is sad, but the movie as the book, moves on quickly to life in the barn. Just prepare the children before going that Charlotte is a spider she will not live forever.

I took my 5 and 7 year old daughters and, in my opinion, there is nothing objectionable in the movie. They both felt sad and even teared up a bit when Charlotte died, but they are both very familiar with the whole "circle of life" theme, so neither of them were terribly surprised.
We all loved the movie and we'll probably see it again.

I took my 5 year old today and she really enjoyed it. She was familiar with the story and knew Charlotte was going to die. The last 15 minutes she was getting a bit of the wiggles (the movie is about 1 hr 30min).
I thought the computer animation on the animals was fantastic and there were enough references and adult humor (not bawdy) that made it funny for the grown-ups as well.

My 4 1/2 year old handled it just fine. She's pretty mature for her age I think, and we've read the book aloud not that long ago so she knew it was coming. Still, I think it's well done and although they might be sad, and it may start a conversation in the car on the way home, they shouldn't be crushed by it.

I always wondered why the spider didn't get more recognition for being literate....

I saw the other movie the other day with a friend and it was wonderful! She's a teacher and her class is getting ready to read the book, so she dragged me along. I really enjoyed it. Julia Roberts was the perfect voice for Charlotte.
It wasn't very crowded that day and the kids were really well behaved, except for one group....3-4 years old who talked and ran around the theater the entire time, the mother was oblivious. I think ages 5 and up can handle it, less than that they will be bored in about 15 minutes, since it's not a cartoon.
