Happy New Year! Ok, a little early but by the time many read this we will be into the New Year. We’ve had a few new folks come and join us this past week and hope they come join us frequently but appreciate their lurking and comments whenever they, or anyone else for that matter, comes by. The season seems to have passed through Christmas and Hanukkah without issue and we’ll all hope that this evening’s festivities don’t put anyone out. Without further ado a quick recap of the previous weeks during my short respite today:

Welcome to the newcomers from last week, Pam and Lily (a.k.a. foodfiend), they have been around the boards for a while and thankfully chose to de-lurk last week.
Pam - Joins us in her attempt to make her life more whole and complete. She believes (and I think we agree) that healthful living includes mind, body, and spirit. We look forward to her discussions from the Pacific Northwest (talking about hiking - something we in the east don’t really talk about all that often). A welcome member of our family.
Lily - is also trying to become more healthy and get a little more energy in her life. She brings some new things for us to discuss and some new things for me to research. Another welcome member of our family.
Karen - Had her kids at home with DS#2 sick, :( dealing with some residual knee issues from her test a couple weeks ago; trying to find something to occupy her kids while they’re off (last week).
Laura K - Missed her last week but think she’s off with family at Christmas and will be back after the New Year.
Me (Les) - Had a great Christmas Day celebration with my family, ran a little, and spent a lot of time just being (something I don’t do that well). Catching up on sleep and rebuilding my healthful life after weeks of burning the candle at all ends.
MIA: Robyncz and cksongbird, I hope we didn’t scare them away.

Workout items: getting ready to go lift at the Y; running in a race tomorrow at 10am; will probably run Tuesday evening and Thursday, riding is probably in the cards for Wednesday; and next Saturday is the first race in a series in Norfolk (20k race).

Healthful living: re-emphasizing my ankle exercises (tweaked a couple weeks ago); sleep when I can; doctor’s appointment Tuesday for consultation writing (nothing big on the plate but routine stuff that needs addressing).

I hope we all have a good week and I look forward to the spirited discussions to come. If there happen to be any other lurkers out there - please drop in and chat, we love having new people come by for a visit.

Until later friends, have a great week -
Peace,
Les

Hi Les,
Thanks for the hearty welcome. I actually haven't been lurking on this thread, so forgive me if I don't catch all the references.
re: adrenal fatigue. When the body undergoes stress, the adrenal glands work overtime. If there are a series of stressors, the glands shrink. As a result, the body becomes easily fatigued, the immune system lowers. I recently saw a naturopath who explained this to me. I had suspected I had something like this (I've been through stressful jobs, deaths and illness in the family), but I never had a name for it. Now that I've been seeing a naturopath, I've been feeling less fatigued, more energetic. It is a gradual recovery, but I really want to put that energy to good use. It's like finally getting my whole body back. Plus I want to lose a few pounds :D

Thank you for the welcome! As for me, I'm enjoying the second of three days off. The sun is out and it's cold but beautiful. Just had a lunch of a baked potato, beans, applesauce. Simple but hearty and filling. In about half an hour I'm going to walk to the store mostly for the walk but also to get out in the fresh air - part of the goal of getting outside every day for a healthy dose of nature.

This week if all goes as planned I'll be talking to a shaman! Not sure what we'll talk about - she's a friend of a friend and mostly I'm curious to hear what she has to say about life and the world. Perhaps she's shown up now to tell me just what I need to know at this point in my life. I can hope!

Les: You don't hike in the east? Nowhere to hike, or it's just not something people do?

Happy new year to all! Healthy living: what a wonderful gift to ourselves.

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!! At least somewhere in the world the clock has already struck 12 am....and soon enough here, too!!

Les-Thanks for getting the new week and the new year started off! Good running vibes go out to you on tomorrow's race/run. Take care of the ankle, too.

Pam-I will be curious to here what a shaman has to say and how he/she advises you. If you don't mind sharing after your visit, curious minds......want to know!;)

Lily-I'm glad to hear you are on the right track to getting your adrenal issues under control and the stressors in your life. Keep up the good work.

We had another good AND quiet day here today. After waking up LATE(DH and I needed our time:D ), ellipticizing(much better today) and feeding the kids, DH went off to Costco with DS#1. He had to get a new DVD player for the kids(theirs broke...not their fault) and he got a few things for me to save me a trip later this week. Of course, he was not happy with the DVD player he got so returned it later in the afternoon and will get the other model they had there. DS#2(who is all better now) had a friend over to play all day(a girl!! he seems to like those girls!!:p ). She stayed and went out to dinner with everyone(except me). And DD played at the neighbors. As for me....aside from the usual puttering around the house I do which included laundry etc... today, I was out to run a side by side bake and taste experiment to finally determine my favorite oatmeal raisin cookie. And I think I found a winner! I made three batches(DH will take alot to work this week!!!!:D ) The one on the quaker oats box(placed 2nd), Cooks Illustrated Best recipes(YUCK! 3rd place), and the winner.....which surprised both DH and I....Cook's Illustrated Best LIGHT recipes!!! That batch stays at home for me!:D

Tonight DH took all the kids and DS#2's friend for pizza. He had a free coupon that expires today so it was burning a hole in his pocket! I decided to stay back and clean up my mess in the kitchen; then relax at home for dinner. Tonight we will ring in the new year with a movie, popcorn, and a fire.

Tomorrow I will swim and then get my grocery shopping done before heading home to fix the kids their last leisurely, late brunch before school begins again on Tuesday. This is always a bittersweet time as they are getting restless and need to go back. But on the same token, they have been well behaved so it has been a nice vacation, and I don't miss the run around that goes along with school/after school activities etc... As a matter of fact, the other day when I was at the pool with the kids, I bumped into the woman who offered me a job earlier this fall and she propositioned me again. Apparently they could really use another MD in their group, but I just don't want to go back now. That's a tough call, but I think I know what will work for me and the kids. Anyway, I've digressed and went on long enough here!!

Have a happy and a healthy new year everyone!!!!

Karen

Lily - Thank you for your explanation about adreanal fatigue, the stuff I read on the different web sites last night wasn't that helpful. Sounds like one of those disesases/conditions that is relatively hard to diagnose and a long term recovery. It does sound like you have a good plan ahead to get your life back together to allow you to do the things you want to do. I'm all too familiar with diseases that limit your participation in different things without explanation (unexplained chronic anemia for ~8 years). If some of the references don't make sense please let us know - there really shouldn't be any secrets and if things aren't clear then we can help clear things up (and often my memory is the thing that makes things unclear).
Pam - I shouldn't have spoken for the whole east coast but "down here" in Tidewater/Norfolk there isn't a lot of hiking to speak of. A little farther west in the state there are some nice areas to hike and there is the Appalachian Trail. I think as your get farther from the coast and closer to the mountains there is more talk of hiking but still nothing like my experiences in Washington (lived near Seattle) and Oregon (lived in and around Corvallis, Portland, St. Helens, The Dalles, and Pendleton). I hope your visit with the shaman is productive too.
Karen - It sounds like a busy day for you - even with the late rising. ;) Oatmeal raisin cookies? How did you know? My favorites too. Thanks for the recommendations on the best recipe. I'm glad your elliptical session was better today too. It sounds like you had a good evening too - sent DH and the kids out for pizza, WOO HOO! ;) I'm not sure a fire would be a good thing down here since it's nearly 50 out and it's not supposed to get cooler tonight so enjoy a little burning wood for all of us. May the remainder of the kid's vacation go as smoothly as the preceding days.

Thanks Karen for the wishes too. I'm going to take it easy tomorrow although I think the shorty wetsuit is out of the question for the race tomorrow - neoprene isn't a breathable fabric and at ~55 degrees I'll need breathable materials even if it's raining. So I'll just let the 4-year old out and play in puddles if necessary. My ankle will be better (I keep telling myself that) as long as I pay attention to what I'm doing.

Time to start heading in even though it's only 11 pm. It could be a long night since our neighbors are shooting off fireworks (hopefully that and not other things that go bang) already - even though they are illegal in Norfolk. But, I know that once I take my hearing aids out all the noise in the world won't make a lot of difference.

Peace to all and Happy New Year's,
Les

Happy New year's Day everyone!!!!

I did make it out for my swim this morning(practically swam there in the pouring rain, too!). However it was touch and go there for a bit. I must have set my alarm for PM as it never went off but I just happen to wake up at 10 min. before 7 am, so I was in the pool by 7:15 am for a good swim. After that I went straight to the store for my weekly groceries. The store was very quiet which was nice, but I'll have to return later this week for a quick stop to get produce as the veggies left ALOT to be desired. Once home with the groceries tucked away, I made the kids pancakes for brunch. Rest of the day was relaxed as well. Tomorrow I'll resume boxing as well as my swims(it was closed today). And the kids....SCHOOL!!!!!!!:)

DH and I did both make it to midnight last night. I even set the kids up in the basement with their own movies and popcorn and told them that they could stay up as long as they did not bother us and were in bed right after the ball dropped. Well, DH and I predicted DD and DS#2 would fall asleep, but DS#1 would not. WE WERE TOTALLY WRONG!! DS#1 fell asleep and missed the ball(saw it today on-line) whereas the younger two stayed up! Shows how well we know our own kids!:p

Have a good remainder of the week,
Kaen

Karen - Isn't it amazing what kids will and won't do? I'd have guessed DS#1 and DS#2 would make it to midnight and DD wouldn't - just my experience. I guess we don't know kids do we? ;) Overslept? I thought I felt the world shudder. ;) Still good for you to get to the pool even if it was raining. Back to normal tomorrow - a good thing for you and your sanity.

It didn't rain this morning, at least while I was out at the race. Good thing I decided last night that the wetsuit would be a bad idea. So I was relegated to my favorite racing rig - chili peppers all around and a bright green tank top. It was quite warm this morning, 69 degrees with 63% humidity for the race. Not quite a record but very close. The wind was the tester of the day though because it was clocked at 24 gusting to 33 mph (I'll testify to that too) for the race. Still, I did well and finished 9th in my age group. The race was a lot of fun too because there was a group of folks who ran in their pjs and a whole slough of folks in "formal" attire (one of the categories of the race). It was a hoot to see them all.

Can't think of much more and I need to head to bed, I need to be primed for my appointment in the morning. Need the Dr. to take a look at a couple things - nothing too pressing but things that have been holding on for a while. On the up side, I'm still off tomorrow, either because of the ex-President or because it is a day off for the command in the first place.

But that's tomorrow so I'll head to bed for the first time of the new year and see you all in the morning.

Peace,
Les

Les-Congratulations on your race results. Ninth is amazing! You still got it!;)

Things were back to reality here. I swam bright and early this morning at 5:30. After seeing the kids off to school, got a few errands done and went to boxing. I stayed for back to back classes(regular and bbc for sparring) to start the new year off. I have 2 consecutive progress tests coming up fairly quickly, one in ~ 2 weeks and then a 3 hour Saturday black belt test the first weekend in Feb. This means I have to be a bit more diligent about brushing up on some of my forms etc....

The rest of the week is fairly low-key. I guess the after school kid stuff is slowly easing back into full gear this week which is a good thing. The boys do have religion tomorrow and DH(he's off tomorrow) have a meeting at school in the afternoon. So that will be my hump day along with a swim, boxing, and perhaps BBC.

Have a good night,
Karen

It looks like you're back to the grindstone Karen, it looks like you beat me by a day. Thanks for the information about your upcoming tests - two so close together seems a little odd but I guess in the long run with all the stuff going on from mid-December through early-January the class needs a little time to get back on step. I think you'll have time to get everything back into form (no pun intended) by the first test. I hope you have a good hump day tomorrow too.

Today was a little disconcerting with a relatively early doctor's appointment. An all clear from the doctor - especially since there are some slightly enlarged lymph nodes on my neck. Nothing to worry about yet (so the doctor says) and certainly not until they are about 3 times larger than they are. Still with all the wind and cooler conditions it was a busy and slightly weird morning. Took care of the remaining hanger on things from the break and swapped out one of my copies of "The Lord of the Rings" DVDs before heading out for my run this evening. I ran with my coach and a couple who are running at Disney this weekend plus one of the regulars from the running group. Nothing really blistering but a solid 60+ minute run over the bridges (kind of a fun run). It wasn't bad this evening considering it was pretty windy and cool this morning. I think we topped off at ~55 today. We're looking for ~60 tomorrow. I know it will get cool again but I hope winter doesn't just descend in a day.

Whit that I'll sign out since I'm back to work tomorrow after being off for just over a week. I may have to pace myself... ;)

Peace all,
Les

Karen and Les -- you both put me to shame! I've been sick these past few days, and I haven't been able to exercise at all. Tomorrow will be my first go at the gym this year. I've had something like the flu -- fever, fatigue etc. Nothing like lying in bed thinking about how much weight I'm gaining

Hi gang!

I'm sorry to be AWOL but now that I am home and not working, I am finding more things to do than play on the computer. It was definitely the best decision for me as I feel more relaxed and rested than I have in years.

I am back to the gym and trying to go first thing in the morning. I am not there today as the lunges/running/biking I did yesterday have me moving very slowly today. I'll try to loosen the muscles up tomorrow.

I have a to do list of chores I am working on. It is nice to know I can take my time doing them and not only on weekends. Hopefully this will take some stress off of DH as we had more than our share last year. We are definitely looking forward to a better 2007.

Hi to Les and Karen, the ever faithful members of this thread.

Hi and good motivation vibes to the newer members. Look forward to getting to know you.

Laura-Hi there and congratulations on retirement, so to speak! Enjoy the R & R as much as you can!

Lily-Don't be intimidated. Les and I are just terminal type A compulsive personalities!:D Besides, if your in bed with a bug, you have a very good excuse. You need your energy to get better. And I bet you're not gaining weight with all the work your body is doing to get over a fever etc... Feel better fast!

Les-Glad to hear everything turned out O.K. in the end at the doctor's. Also sounds like you got in a good run on your extra day off. Way to go! We're having really weird winter weather here, too. It's at the point where it would be nice to get just a little snow....at least more than the 10 flakes we've had so far this winter!! I think CO. and NM took it all this year!!

Rather typical day for me....swim, store(milk, fruits, & veggies), boxing, BBC class(self defense today) and this afternoon DH and I had a meeting with DS#1 and the 4 teachers on his "team" at school. DS#1 is a smart kid, but he needs a bit more hand holding to get himself orgainzed and keep himself that way so he can suceed. We've made some progress, but it is a long road! This evening DS#1 had student council and both boys went to religion.

Tomorrow...swim and box. Gotta think about doing the bed linens, too!!:( HMMMMM....maybe, I'll just think about it awhile longer!:p

Have a good evening,
Karen

Karen -- thanks for the kind words. Today I did make it out to the gym and did a pilates class followed by power yoga. I feel much, much better now, mentally and physically. It's amazing how down I feel if I don't exercise. Someday, I hope to be able to exercise everyday. That might not sound like a big goal, but it really is for me. I have to increase my workouts gradually, because it takes more time to recover. I get run down and sick easily, so I avoid the gym when I'm feeling a bit under the weather (germs). I am fit, though, but it takes more out of me to get this way than it does for the average person.
Whew, I didn't expect go into this much detail!
Let's see what tomorrow holds.

Like Karen said, we're both the A+ types who exercise because. Like you said, something to shoot for.
Oh but not really, it isn't amazing how your body thrives on even the least amount of exercise or movement. Some days even though it isn't very "exercise" oriented just walking a little will be the thing that "cures what ails ya'." Kind of like walking from the tower in Toronto to the textile museum and back. Exercising every day IS a big goal and admirable too. A gradual increase in your workouts is recommended anyway, that way you don't burn yourself out in the process of getting into the groove.
I get run down and sick easily, so I avoid the gym when I'm feeling a bit under the weather (germs). I am fit, though, but it takes more out of me to get this way than it does for the average person.

Oh that more people at the gym were like you. Taking the day off when they were under the weather a little. I think we'd all be better off if more people took your rule of exercise and didn't spread their cold in the weight room.

Karen - Linens don't get clean thinking about it - trust me on that one, I'm an old pro about thinking about doing laundry. :D Sounds like a typical day for you - bet that felt good. Sending good thoughts to DS#1 for his classwork.
Laura K - Welcome back. I'm glad to hear that you're ok and that you had a decent Christmas. Like Karen said, you need the break and I can imagine how hard it is to work your web time in when you work from home. Here's looking at a better 2007 for you.

Well today was a bit weird and had a melt down of sorts. Hard to go back to work after being off for over a week (last time in the office was Friday before Christmas). It took hours just to get through my inbox and ALL the messages we've received in 10+ days. W/o too many details the day went downhill from there and spun out of control. Ended up spending over 15 minutes on hold trying to make a follow-up medical appointment only to find out that I was waiting on the wrong line. By the time I got to the right queue the office had closed - not helpful to get my day back in synch. Then there was going to the grocery and finding the locusts had descended on the place - nothing that I needed in the store - NO yogurt, a couple loaves of bread, and a produce clerk who was tossing heads of lettuce onto the pile and when I commented that throwing lettuce isn't always the best thing she looked at me like I had three heads. (I think she thought I was kidding) So that only helped to magnify my funk by the time I got home (never a good thing) - hungry and cranky do not make a good condition to run or ride in. So I bagged all exercise for today, cooked dinner, did penance doing Christmas Cards (it is within 30 days of Christmas so I'm still good :D ). Maybe tomorrow will be a better day - I can only hope.

However, on a positive note (of sorts) I got my pictures from the Hair of the Dog (http://www.triduo.com/searchraceresults.php?race_id=1342&bib=485&s=e) AND the results book from Flying Pig this afternoon. What a great book and what memories of the Virtual Running Buddies (another thread here) in Cincinnati this past spring. I'm a little happier now.

Need to turn in early, maybe that will relieve my funk a little. Until tomorrow - peace and pleasant dreams,
Les

Lily-Glad your feeling a bit better and sounds like you had quite a workout your first day back. I, too, find I feel SO much better after my workouts. I guess that is part of the reason I am so addicted to them. I, too, started gradually and built up over the course of several years.

Les-{{{{LES}}}} sorry you had such a crummy day yesterday. I hope today has been better for you. If it is any consolation, those pictures of your race are quite nice. Looks like your barely even breaking a sweat! And I hear you on the "lettuce lady." I ha that happen once as I was checking out and the cashier took the produce item and literally slammed it down the belt to the bagger. When I said to her, "Um....maam, that food is for my family and we actually do eat it;not play football with it," she looked at me like I was an alien! Geesh!

Another typical day here. I did have to swim with the flailer today, but he was tolerable, I guess. After the kids went to school, I ran errands(Target), boxed(very good class today) and came home for lunch. After lunch I did more than just think about linens, Les!!! Stripped all those gosh darned beds and cleaned them sheets!:D

Hope everyone has a good night,
Karen

Leslie Ferguson
01-04-2007, 08:54 PM
I'm glad you took my advice Karen about the linens, ;) I'd hate for you to miss out on clean sheets. The flailer (it's been a while hasn't it?), boxing, errands, and clean sheets - makes me sound like a slacker. ;) And all before lunch I might add. Thanks for the comments about my running - it really was a pretty decent day to run if you got past the wind. It's too bad that real stores have ham-handed produce folks too since most of my issues end up with the military commissary (grocery store). Anything neat on the schedule for this weekend? It's supposed to be balmy and thunderstorms Friday and part of the day Saturday.

Today was better and much easier to take, even with the little perturbations. I think the mass of little things yesterday was just too much - funny that little things that are really inconsequential are the things that rain on my parade. Today was a good and busy day at work, not making work but doing things. I also ran at lunch for ~62 minutes which always makes the day go well. Let's see, I also got good feedback from my internship supervisor so that's one more letter/evaluation out of the way - only three more. And probably the best thing, I was invited to an Ordination for a lady who I met and got to know in Newport years ago (almost 4 now). Somehow she saw my picture and found my work phone number. So now I have another thing on Saturday besides the 20k race in the morning - a 5pm ordination. And to top that off the priest from Newport will be in town for the ordination so it's going to be a great day all around.

I hope everyone has a good Friday and a fantastic weekend.

Peace,
Les

Les-WOW! Sounds like you had the busy day yesterday....and a good one to boot!! While we are on the topic of produce, I have one last rant. Went to Costco today to pick up some stuff including broccoli to throw on our pizzas for tomorrow among other things. Looked good in the bag and had a sell by date of 1/11 so O.K., I get it. BUT....when I got home and opened the package....hmm...O.K. only a few rotten pieces. Next I cook(lightly steam/blanch them...YUCKO!!! The stuff, although not visibly rotting, stunk and practically disintegrated when it hit the water. It was all mushy. I know that Costco would take it back, but I was so frustrated and it was such a smelly mess, I just threw it all in a plastic bag and took it out to the trash. Oh well....I can think of worse things that have been wasted. I guess pizza tomorrow will be pantry staple pizza which is not bad at all(artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, onion, dried tomatoes, pesto from freezer etc...).

Rant aside....

Aside from the curse of the broccoli, I had a good swim and biked/ellipticized this morning. Speaking of which, the elliptical folks are coming out AGAIN this week for more tweaking. I have continued to be in contact with the guy who is in charge of customer relations over this as the new unit they gave us is having "issues" as well. It is still very usuable, but WOW is it noisy(and the original unit was not before the flywheel broke). I know they will remedy this situation....somehow....eventually!

This weekend is going to be a bit weird. DH decided at the last minute that he wants to go to the city, but I have to stay here since as Brownie "cookie mom" I will be picking up ~90 cases on Saturday. I finally told him take the train and go with the kids. I got DD's troup leader to go with me tomorrow to help get the cookies. Sunday religion starts back up for the new year. Both days I'll ellipticize and/or bike.

Have a good weekend.

Les-WOW! Sounds like you had the busy day yesterday....and a good one to boot!!
:o OOPS! I re-read my post - yesterday while busy wasn't the packed day, some of the stuff I spoke about is happening tomorrow (Saturday). Yesterday - run and internship feedback; Saturday - 20k race and Ordination.
While we are on the topic of produce, I have one last rant. ... but I was so frustrated and it was such a smelly mess, I just threw it all in a plastic bag and took it out to the trash. Oh well... I guess pizza tomorrow will be pantry staple pizza which is not bad at all(artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers, onion, dried tomatoes, pesto from freezer etc...).
That would be quite frustrating but the pizza from the staples in the pantry sounds good (sans artichokes).
... the elliptical folks are coming out AGAIN this week for more tweaking. I have continued to be in contact with the guy who is in charge of customer relations over this as the new unit they gave us is having "issues" as well. It is still very usuable, but WOW is it noisy (and the original unit was not before the flywheel broke). I know they will remedy this situation....somehow....eventually! ... but I have to stay here since as Brownie "cookie mom" I will be picking up ~90 cases on Saturday. I finally told him take the train and go with the kids.
Keep on the elliptical folks - I'm sure they'll get tired of hearing from you but the should get things right. It sounds like you're going to have a busy day while DH plays in the city... ~90 cases of cookies (I assume that isn't boxes) is a lot of cookies. I hope you get everything done and your weekend isn't too hectic.

Tonight was a mixed bag. LW and I went on our date night since tomorrow will be pretty busy in the afternoon with the Ordination and her working. Bought cards at Hallmark (one of my favorite stores) and were going to have dinner at California Pizza Kitchen Intended on not having pizza but they have some great sounding salads with all kinds of neat things so I had a roasted veggie salad with chicken. But what it sounded like on the menu and what I got weren't in the same park. Needless to say there was so much olive oil on the veggies coming out of the roaster that I'm glad I asked for side dressing. And needless to say the salad had the expected impact on my system... TMI. I'll remember to NEVER do that again. I hope everything passes (no pun intended) before the race in the morning.

Other than that, not much from balmy Norfolk (nearly 70 degrees today). After the thunderstorms tonight it's supposed to be nearly 75 tomorrow  - where is winter?

To bed to see if my system will settle down. Until tomorrow in the middle of things...

Peace,
Les

Hi everyone,
I saw my naturopath and she confirmed all that I had read about adrenal fatigue. My body will take more time to recover from a workout esp. if I max myself out. A few weeks ago I did a 2-hour ashtanga yoga workshop. It felt great, and I was able to do it, but the next day I couldn't move. My muscles were so sore! I thought I was sick, but it turns out my body was recovering from pushing itself so much.
This has been going on for a while. I mumbled something like "it's not fair" during our session, because it takes more out of me to do what others take for granted. I usually don't indulge in self-pity like that, but the stressors were serious and took a lot out of me, and recovery is taking a long time. Exercising makes me feel better about myself and everything around me. I want more of that!

That's too bad about your recovery time but it's also good to know how your body reacts to being pushed. I guess for the time being it's about moderation - either shorter duration workouts more frequently (which sounds like what you really want to do anyway) or longer duration workouts less frequently. I don't think it's self-pity either, being limited in the things you can do, especially compared to others like you, is always hard. But it sounds like you are making progress and that's a good thing.

Today was a mixed healthful living and workout day. I did run this morning and it doesn't look like the KPC dinner didn't come back to haunt me. I ran well and finished a little ahead of my goal which was good because it was warm, ~67 when we started. In the past 8 years I've never run a race in this series in a tank top but I did today (had to it was so warm).

This afternoon/evening was my personal time - the healthful living part of my life. I wen to an Ordination for a friend of mine whose husband followed me to Newport from Norfolk when I was there for school a couple years ago. Then she came back to Norfolk and is working for a Priest friend of mine. (small world) And it was old home week at her ordination - LOTS of folks I haven't seen in a while and needed to catch up with. Ended up spending ~90 minutes at the reception chatting. It was so wonderful to spend time with people smiling, hugging, and sharing stories and passions about life. I need to do that more often.

About time to call it a night since I had a pretty terrible night last night (sleep-wise). I'll look forward to seeing you all tomorrow and having a new thread.

Peace,
Les
