Hi All,
I just finished up a very boring, self-invented strength workout. I know lots of you do this at home. Can anyone suggest a strength dvd or two? I have many different hand weights and an exercise ball and mat.
I swear I saw one in a magazine that had about 50 different one minute strength/toning exercises that could be mixed to create a different workout each time. Heard of it?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks so much!

Try collagevideo.com. They won't be the least expensive place to buy a DVD, but you will be able to find one that fits your criteria (like those one minute ones) and might be able to find it at deepdiscountdvd.com or somewhere else, like Ross. Also, you could look at the forums at videofitness.com. Those folks do an awful lot of different dvd workouts and would be able to offer you suggestions.

I did a quick little search for you and found Minna Lessig's One Minute Workout. That might be the one you are thinking about. Collage has it for $20.

I really like Kathy Smith's Lift Weights to Lose Weight (even if you don't need to lose weight). There are two volumes, each with 20-minute workouts. The second one has an added balance ball workout. Kathy's good with teaching form and with designing an efficient routine.

I recommend looking at Karen Voight's DVDs - not everybody loves her (she's not a bouncy, giggly instructor), but her form is fantastic. Her website is here (http://www.karenvoight.com/).
Otherwise, I really like Tamilee Webb's I Want That Body DVD, especially for days when I'm a bit short on time - I can just focus on one area or on more!

I rented this from Netflicks and really like it. It's different each time although some of the exercise are repeated during the workout. I like that you determine how long you're going to work out and which areas you want to focus on.

Check out Cathe Friedrich's DVDs (http://www.cathe.com/). They are very good and very challenging. She always tells you what weight she is using and I almost always reach for half of what she's using. :o So, a lot of her stuff is very challenging for me, but I just do it at my own level, which is true of any workout.
If you have have FitTV on your channel lineup, you can check out her shows - they are on 3 times a day.
I like the Push/Pull, the Pyramid for upper and lower body, Supersets. She also has a series with Chest/Back, Legs/Shoulders, etc. Some of these come bundled (like Push/Pull and Supersets are bundled in one of the Body Blast series), but I think if you hunt around, you can find them sold singly.
You can buy the DVDs elsewhere online - not just from her site, but the site is a good place to check out the different DVDs.
Good luck.
I need to get back to my Cathe workouts. My DVR went on the blink and I lost all the Cathe workouts I recorded, but fortunately they play often enough that I can re-record them..........or maybe I need to bite the bullet and actually buy them! ;)

Am I the only one who wonders why so many exercise videos are made by people named Kathy? :D
Kathy Smith is my favorite for aerobics and strentgh both. Her butt and abs toning one is really good, but it's in longer segments (10-20 minutes depending on level of fitness).

Cathe's my favorite, too. I hesitate to recommend her as she is what I would describe as QUITE ADVANCED. However, she recently put out a couple of beginner/intermediate DVD's that contain strength work. You might try the one called Low Impact Step + Total Body Sculpting. The sculpting workout mentions that it uses a ball. I don't have that one myself, but all of Cathe's workouts are excellent. If you are a bit more advanced, you would do well with the Push Pull/Super Sets DVD as I would describe that one as the least challenging of her more advanced weightlifting DVD's. There are some challenging moves in each one, but modifications are shown.
Someone else who I have just started to try is Jari Love of the "ripped" workouts. Her stuff is easily modified to fit a variety of workout levels. I found her DVD's at Ross for about $6 apiece. Hard to beat that.

WOW- such great suggestions. Thanks everyone! I did a search on college video and had my eye on a few that were mentioned. I think I may try to borrow some from NetFlix and see what I think. Looking forward to trying this route. My school has me getting home just late enough that if I hit the gym after it is packed.

Another vote for Cathe. we bought her coremax and muscle max workouts for christmas & just started using them. way too soon to talk about results other than being sore! They are tough workouts but manageable if you reduce the weight. she lifts some serious weight.
