Anyone working out today? Post it here!
I went to the regularly scheduled Pilates class, got my mat set up, went into the girls' room, came back and the sub was talking about yoga. Yikes! I can't stand yoga (or so I thought.) It ended up being a fantastic class:D
Moral of the story: I should try more new things:)

Sheila, your story make me laugh. :D I do both yoga and Pilates and really enjoy both workouts. I'm glad you enjoyed the new adventure!!
I did 40 minutes on the treadmill this evening.

Sheila,
Thanks for sharing your story (and the moral). I'll try to keep it in mind.
This AM I went to the gym and again was shut out from the cycling class. It used to have about 3 people in it and suddenly it's full. So I lifted weights for about 30 minutes, then I came home and ran 2.7 miles.
I'm glad I got shut out, bcs. the class was very full and it was hot in there, and instead I got a peaceful, cooler run outdoors.

It's Saturday morning and I have just returned from a sweaty bike ride at the "Y."
Sheila -- I LOVE yoga...it's almost as good as and lots less expensive than a massage! :p
Martha -- it's the New Year's resolution-types that are clogging up the classes and machines at the gyms right now. Most of them will be gone by Feb. 1; Valentine's Day at the latest.
Question (which I will post on its own thread). Can anyone compare these different descriptions of exercise intensity with heart rate level? (They are Weight Watchers activity point descriptions.)
Low: You can talk or sing; your breathing is regular and you are not sweating.
Moderate: You can talk, but you can't sing. You breathe often and deeply and begin sweating after 10 minutes.
High: You can talk briefly, but you can't sing. You breathe rapidly and deeply and begin sweating after 3 - 5 minutes.
According to that, my bike ride was only moderate, but I was in the 75-80 percent target heart rate zone for my age, which I should think would be more than moderate?
Thoughts?

Hi, all! Good job on the workouts!
Sheila, that is pretty much how I got started with yoga, too. Before, I always used to think of it as kind of foo foo exercise!:o Now I do it more than any other kind!
Martha, unfortunately for them, Jackie is probably right and most of those people will clear out before too long. Glad you had nice weather for a run!
Jackie, I think the HR will vary depending on the person and their level of fitness. As your fitness increases, you will be able to exert yourself more without your HR going up as much. The main thing is to be exercising with your HR in an aerobic zone. Here is a link to a page that shows you how to calculate your aerobic zone based on your age and resting HR. IF you scroll down the page, it also talks about the "talking test". HTH!

Melanie, I hit the treadmill for 40 minutes today, too, for some hill walking. I also did a bit of yoga when I first got up this morning.
Didn't get to post yesterday, but I spent the afternoon unloading and loading cases and cases and cases (you get the idea) of GS cookies at the central pickup place. Lots of weight lifting and stretching involved, just not the usual fashion!:D

Good workouts Melanie, Martha, Jackie and Kathy!
This morning I went to kickboxing class:) Great workout. Oh, and I'm a little sore from yesterday's yoga - I guess you call that karma:p
Jackie - you know your body better than anyone, and if your ride felt like more than just "moderate" then you should count it as such. I would probably figure out the activity points for both moderate and high, and split the difference - hope that helps and that I didn't misunderstand the question;) On an unrelated note, any news around town about what Brett's plans are?? I'm not sure what to think after seeing him choke up after the Chicago game....

That's ALL anyone has been talking about this week! However, by today, the headline in the newspaper had something to do with how much more salary wiggle room the team would have if Brett decides to retire. I don't think anyone seriously thinks he will, however. He loves the game, is still healthy, the team's outlook seems positive; why wouldn't he stick around for another year and go for some more records? There's only so much riding around on a lawn tractor that a healthy under-40 guy can do without going nuts!
I like your idea of splitting the difference on activity points. Thanks. (And after happy hour spent with only one glass of wine but LOTS of pita and hummus, I'm going to need the boost!) :o

Sounds like everyone has been really busy this weekend. Kathy, I can't believe it's Girl Scout cookie time. Our actually won't hit until February but the Girl Scouts (and their parents) are actively pre-selling!
I did Pilates yesterday morning (another sub....not as bad as the one earlier in the week but definitely not the wonderful one we usually have on Saturday mornings) and did a full-body work out this morning including cardio.

Hi Melanie - good work this weekend! I love Pilates and am planning to try a Power Pilates class at one of the new locations of our gym. Any idea what that might be? I usually just go to regular Pilates.
This morning I did my interval/incline/hand weight treadmill workout. I had to work off last night's pizza:)
Anyone else out there today?

Great work, you guys!
I skate skied about 37km yesterday. Lots of hill climbing that I can feel in my quads today. This morning, I am off to a soccer scrimmage for about an hour. That's it for me this weekend!

Seems like everyone I know was out there today! We started the day at the tennis club where DS and his girlfriend were in separate doubles finals matches. DS and his partner won; the girlfriend and her partner lost.
Dragged DH to the "Y" for the first time in nearly a year (he has had a bone spur), and got him situated on a recumbent bike. One of DS's tennis teammates was working out with his girlfriend and parents; as I was walking my cool-down on the indoor running track, the neighbors (husband, wife and son) were all working out, too. 'Tis the season.
So...I did 30 minutes on the arc trainer, abs and squats on the core ball and upper body on the machines. Tomorrow is a break day -- I have to drive to Madison and back. I'll maybe try some yoga poses when I get home to unkink the old bod....all in all, a good weekend for working out!

Yoga for me this morning. I am working 12 hours tomorrow, so as far as exercise goes it will be a rest day. (Not in any other way, though!)
Looks like a good workout weekend for several of us and quite a lot of variety as well. Keep up the good work, everyone, and have a good week!

Last night I did 40 minutes of cardio then a 15 minute abs class using my OnDemand ExerciseTV :D. The abs workout was awesome, I'm planning on doing it a few times a week.
