Hello!
My son has and had cholesteatoma's. After going through 9 doctors we finally found this amazing ENT Dr. Craig. He did a Cat scan within 2 weeks and got my son in to U of M with the head professor to have surgery. Dr. Koppmann at U of M found that Kyle's cholesteatoma's spread next to the dura of his brain. If we would of waited any longer he would be a vegetable now.
He had a radical mastiodectomy done in 2000 when he was 3.5 years old. His was quite bad. He was supposed to have surgery once a year every year possibly for the rest of his life there after.
So far it has been twice since then. He lost his ear drum, ear canal, middle ear bones, mastoid bone and chamber was completly cleaned out. They ground up his mastoid bone to make new bone to cover his inner ear nerves. Also this left him with a huge ear canel area. As he has gotten older it has gotten smaller. But it is still at least double the size of mine.
Sincerely,
Kim
