Can you remove permanent marker from clothing?

I was labeling something for DS's daycare this morning with permanent marker, and I dropped the marker. There's a line of marker on my shirt now - is there any way to remove the stain? It just happened about 3 minutes ago.

    TIA

I don't know about permanent marker, but I have had success in taking pen marks out of clothes. I make a paste out of Biz and a little water, I put it on the stain and let it sit overnight. This works well for a lot of stains. I have also soaked garments in oxy-clean and water overnight.

What is your shirt made of? If it is cotton or something like that that is not too delicate, try blotting it with rubbing alcohol. If you can get most of it out with alcohol, try washing it with the Rit dye "color remover" (following the instructions to remove stains).

If it is a more delicate fabric like silk or something, I would get to a dry cleaner as quickly as possible.

Well, I got it out with the rubbing alcohol. Thanks for the idea - I'm sure I'll need it again sometime

I've used hairspray before but I think it just works because it has alcohol in it.

I'm glad it came out! I keep different formulas of Carbona's Stain Devils around for those sorts of accidents. I got sharpie out of khaki pants, and a district manager I worked for got nail polish out of her jeans with the help of the company's help telephone line.
