Mixed up spoons - scratched Le Creuset

Don't you just hate it when you zone out?

There I am, scooping my Baked Eggplant and Feta (Deborah Madison's Vegetarian Cooking For Everyone, p 371 if you're interested) with my metal spoon. La di da..... time to scoop the Crusty Persian Rice and I just keep going with my metal spoon. And repeat (I was making lunches for DH and myself for the next few days). It wasn't until I got close to the bottom that I realized, and by then it was too late. My beloved (and singular) Le Creuset has scratches from the spoon.

Aside from my bruised vanity (I like special items like a LeCreuset to remain immaculate), will it be okay? The scratches are small, and don't seem to have busted through the enamel. Just dinged it a bit.

    Anyone else have this experience?

    Grumpy. Grumpy Grumpy.

I have 2 of the casserole dishes that I did this with at thanksgiving last year. I don't even notice them. I didn't do anything to it to get rid of them either. Is yours cast iron enamel? I'm sorry I know its no help to you.

I know, I know, you aren't suppose to use metal on Le Creuset, but I didn't know that until I got my very expensive Le Creuset pan home from the store. I was SO MAD about another pan that had these rules, I went ahead and used my metal whisk on it. Yes, it discolored the enamel with "scratches" but other than burned tomato sauce sticking to it, it works just fine. You should be fine.

I use metal all the time...
I don't think the scratches are deep enough where they would flake off the coating and cause rust, so I just live with it.

    Thanks everyone.

I'm sure it will be fine. I'm just really annoyed with myself. But as long as the pan is still non-stick(y?) then I'll have to get over it. Besides...when full one can't see the scratches anyways. Right??

    Right???

Thanks to everyone for their replies. They are definitely making me feel better.

Which Le Creuset pan do you have? You say non-stick. Do you have the non-stick omelette pan (which is not cast iron) or the cast iron skillet?

I'd like to know also. The dish was described like a casserole type dish so I assumed it may be one of the casseroles or even the oval au gratin pan (which I would like to have myself)

I have this... the 3 1/2 quart round casserole in blue. I apologize for being confusing. It is not "nonstick" in the traditional sense, but what i love about it is that I can use a minimum of oil when cooking with it.

SheRa - I plan on typing up the recipe soon to post on my blog. When I do that, I will post it on CL as well.

a little scrub with Bar Keeper's Friend always takes off any scratches I've left from whisks or metal utensils. Also, Le Crueset makes a cleaning product that would probably do the same:

Although, even with the scratches your pan will still function just fine. Just think of them as battle scars!
