Name of Doll, help driving me crazy!

I'm trying my best to remember the name of a doll I LOVED growing up. She was roughly the size of a barbie, but without the 12 inch waist and DDD boobs Mine had brown long hair and brown eyes and you could buy clothes in themes like different country's clothing.

I don't think they make her anymore but am looking for something similar for my 2.5 year old for Christmas.

    Thanks!

Editing to say I was born in 72, so my guess is this was late 70's...

Hmm...I was thinking the Heart Family, but that was in the 80's. Maybe the Dawn doll? Or Crissy?

Is it the Madame Alexander dolls?

    katy,

I don't know the name of the doll, but I had the same one!!! Barbie is forbidden from coming into my house. When the weeone was 3 I got her hooked on Groovy Girls since they're stuffed and it's easier to dress and undress them when you have little hands. There are a couple that I think are over the top and have tattoos, but there are plenty of "family friendly" options within the brand as well. Just thought I'd mention it as a back up.

Good luck and hooray for another non-fan of Barbie!!!

Was it a "Tammy" doll? There was also "Chrissy." "Madame Alexander" dolls also came to mind.

This gave me a flashback to a doll that I had (actually, it was probably my older sister's doll) that had a flat chest and when you twisted her arm she grew boobs! How crazy is that?!

In pre-Barbie days, I had a Miss Ginger doll. She was 10.5 inches tall and had brown hair. She had a "grown-up" figure, but it was more realistic than Barbie.

You could buy a lot of different clothes for her, but they were expensive. Luckily, there were also patterns available to make clothes for her. In fact, even when I was in high school, I sewed doll clothes when I was bored!

Yes, I remember that well! It was called "Growing Up Skipper" - when you twisted her left arm, she grew 3/4" taller and grew boobs, and her waist got smaller too. Hard to believe!!

Um, Grace, you might want to delete your pics.

How weird! I can see the pics I posted! Go to properties, highlight the URL and then go to the URL. Then you'll see them, and then you'll probably see them here too. But maybe I will just post the links then instead of the pics.....

    Sorry ladies!!

Still getting the image I described when I go to the url but I'm going back to add some asterisks to my quote just so it's not questionable.

OK I changed them to links, but if you're still getting objectionable stuff, let me know and I'll just delete altogether. The photos I posted are not objectionable. They're just the Skipper doll with a flat chest, and then Skipper with her new, grown up boobs! Sorry again. I didn't mean to put up objectionable stuff!! I still wonder why I can see it no problem and no one else can....?

Oh, Grace, I know you didn't mean to post anything objectionable! I just think its funny given the events of the board this week.

OK, I'll just delete them then. Never mind! I still don't understand why I can click the links and see the pictures, but whatever....

Probably because clicking on links and linking them on another site are two different things.

I know about hotlinking, but I changed my post to links and still people got that same message and couldn't see the pictures. But I could. Meaning if I went back to my own post and clicked on my own links, the pictures were there for me. So that part I don't get. But I guess it doesn't matter.

    I agree, I don't understand why either.

So the links that you posted were on the photo hosting site that you use such as Photobucket, Webshots, or the like?

Just naming or renaming the link to a picture you found on a webpage won't do anything if it is hotlink protected.

I have no clue what doll you might be remembering, but I'm totally cracking up at "Growing Up Skipper!" I'm just picturing the marketing meetings...

I don't know what kind of toys your 2.5 year old might already have, but mine was way more into baby dolls than barbie-type dolls at that age. Abby had several Corolle dolls that she loved, similar to these:

They were easy to dress and undress (compared to barbie anyway!) and she loved brushing their hair.

Thanks guys! I still haven't "found her" yet, and I'm sure they don't make her anymore, but it is annoying me! Thanks too for the suggestions for dolls for my DD. I really am liking the look of the Corolle doll. Groovy Girls are cute too, but I was thinking of something with a hard body instead of a plush one.

I am shaking my head at the "growing up Skipper doll" !!! Craziness, I tell you! Although at times it would be convient to twist my arm and have my waist get smaller and my boobs bigger

OK, instead of linking to just the pictures, I will try to link to the whole page with the information on it. Maybe that will work for those of you who are really curious to see a real "Growing Up Skipper"! Once you get to this webpage though, you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom to see the Skipper.

    My Friend Mandy?

    Was it "My Friend Mandy?"

Katygirl - I think you'd be pleased with the Corolle dolls - they are very well made, and they smell good too (like very faint vanilla)! They don't sell that at places like Toys R Us though - I ordered mine online, but I've also seen them at smaller, independent toy stores.
