Have any of you tried "boot camp"? It seems to be getting more popular in our area. If you've gone what are your impressions? Did it work for you? I'd love to know what you think.
TIA

I've done two different ones, and loved them both.
The first was a large, mixed-gender group and most of the people were in really good shape. I was in shape too--round and wobblyBut the instructor was wonderful, and it was really easy to change the workout to fit my needs and abilites.
I just finished a month of one that was a much smaller group and was all women. I love the instructor, and made a good friend in the process! I'm planning on signing up for the next session.
The good: in both cases, I saw a dramatic improvement in my fitness level, being able to jog, doing push-ups etc. I grew up playing team sports, so I have a really hard time motivating myself to do the hard stuff. Having a "coach" telling you what to do makes it so much easier towork hard. It's way cheaper than a personal trainer too, but I felt like I got a lot of personal attention.
The not as good: it's hard waking up so early in the morning (We went 5:30-6:30 am), but after the first week, you get used to it. It's a lot more expensive than simply joining a gym.
Anyway, like I said, I am planning on the next session and really think it's a worthwhile way to excercise![]()
I get winded just thinking about it!![]()
Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.
I feel the same way! I'm looking for a way to stay motivated with my exercising though. I start out well and then after a couple of weeks my enthusiasm wanes. I have a real commitment to drop about 10 pounds but I'm having no luck.
I thought that if I had a regular routine where I had to make a commitment it would be better. Our rec center is offering some light aerobic and body sculpting classes. I think I'll do that instead of the boot camp. I just can't see me doing push ups.![]()
Some people just need a class, where they're missed if they don't come, so they feel the commitment to be there. That's why I do the water aerobics, and why I've stuck with it for almost 2 years! Besides, it really helps!![]()

If you really are serious that you get winded thinking about it, I would skip boot camp. The boot camp at my Y is for regular exercisers only (it says so in the brochure) and not beginners. The women I see (and it's mostly women) there are in awesome shape, with visible delts, biceps, etc.
I'll stick to my indoor track and little weight machines![]()
