Suggestions for gift (5 yr. old boy)

My "baby" is 36 years old and female. I have no experience with boys at all. DH and I've been invited to a kindergarten graduation for a 5 year old boy. I have *no idea* where to begin searching for a gift. Those of you who have young boys, could you kindly offer some suggestions?

My son is almost 5 and he loves Planet Heros, Star Wars and legos.
    Hope this helps!

The little matchbox airplanes are a hit here. Board games are a lot of fun too. We've been playing Green Eggs and Ham, Sequence for Kids, Buck a Roo, and some Cariboo games lately.

I'll second the Cariboo game. It was always one of DS's favorite games. I bought it for the Kindergarten class, and all of the kids loved it too. (Even I enjoyed it quite a bit.)

Legos for sure. Books would be great, especially considering it's a K graduation. If you're comfortable with a gift card to a bookstore, most kids by this age enjoy using the "credit card" and selecting their own books.

Really - Cariboo for a older 5/6 year old? Am I thinking of the right game?? - the treasure hunting one with the balls and it opens the treasure chest? I would think it a little young for K (particularly a graduating K). But I get mixed up with all those cranium games - the names get mumbled in my head.

You're probably right Kim, it's better suited for maybe 3 & 4 year olds, and maybe beginning Kindergarten. My youngest is 10 now, so it's been a long time for me.

How about big water guns, or a Slip & Slide. Those are always a hit in the summer.

The game Hullabaloo might be a good choice if you are looking for a game. My 5 and 7 yo's love it.

Gosh...most of this stuff I've never even heard of! Sure came to the right place for good suggestions though. I'm "copying & pasting" all ideas and researching them.

All of you have been extremely nice. Thank you!

Kim, You are totally right. We've been playing some of the other Cranium games. That one stuck into my head. We play Cariboo with DS2 who's 3.
