Any info on Brussels Griffon or English Toy Spaniel?

Well, I was leaning towards the English Toy Spaniel aka King Charles Spaniel but not to be confused with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel which is a different breed.

But I had also been looking at Brussels Griffons. I found one black and tan female that is adorable. And one that is black with brown hairs but will probably be black and not dark belge.

Both breeds are cute and different in personalities. I have 2 of each breed that I am interested in. I really need to figure out which breed to go with and which dog. I am having such a hard time deciding.

Anybody have any info on Brussels Griffons? I've read the stuff online and in my dog books and what breeders have told me. But maybe you know somebody who has one or you have seen one in the clinic or you have groomed one. And I can get some real life info.

Or anybody have any info on English Toy Spaniels? Again I've read the stuff online and in my dog books and breeders have answered my questions. But any real life info would be great.

So confused. I probably couldn't go wrong with any of them. But need some more things to consider in making my decision.

Oh, and here are some pics.

    First the English Toy Spaniels.

This black and tan female is 3.5 months old. The breeder says if it doesn't work out for any reason, she would always take her back although she wants her to have her forever home. She says that she has never had a female ETS that was pushy. Only one male in her 16 years of breeding. The parents are 12 and 13 lbs:

This black and tan female is 7 months old although this picture is more like at 3 months and I am suppose to be getting a more recent picture. Her mom is 9 lbs and Dad is 14 lbs. I think her coloring on her face is so pretty.

    Now for the Brussels Griffon:

This black female has some brown hairs, so she will probably be black but may be dark belge. She is 4 weeks old. The only one of the litter. The breeder says it is too young for her to tell her temperament but that at more like 6 or 7 weeks she might be able to tell. And that when she weans her at 7-8 weeks, she will also be with 2 other female puppies from another litter. That if her temperament as she gets older isn't what I need for Gigi and one of the other two females in the other litter are, then I could have one of them instead. The other litter has a black and has a red (which I don't want a red). She only ships at 12 weeks.

This black and tan female is 9 weeks old and is weaned and litter box trained. The black and tan coloring is like the coloring on a doberman (just with longer hair on the Brussels Griffon). Her parents are Dad (4#) and Mom (9#) so she should be small. Her personality is middle of the road.

Because of your concerns over Gigi I would probably lean toward the younger puppy. I realize this does not actually help you choose between breeds (I am a strictly large dog gal so I am afraid I don't have too many opinions on small dogs) but I always think it is easier to introduce a tiny pup into a household.

Of course having said that you already know a little about the personality of the older puppy.

Aren't I helpful? They're both adorable. How big is Gigi? (I forget her breed)

At this point I appreciate any input. I keep thinking of that too. that a puppy might be good but with the older puppy I would know the personality and not have so many of the puppy things (teething, etc.).

And that the ETS has the more laid back personality but more fur to deal with and may be bigger than Gigi. And isn't as energetic so couldn't join us on long walks and dog agility most likely.

Gigi is an affenpinscher. She is just under 11# and is about 11" at the shoulder. Right now, I just think the black and tan brussels griffon is such a cutie and with small parents would likely be smaller than gigi which i think would help in the dominance concerns I have. and they would look so cute together. And if she is smaller 6-7 lbs then that will make it easier to schlepp both around. Just a wee bit easier than if the second dog was 14#.

Well the winner is the black and tan Brussels Griffon in the bottom picture. She was born 5/20/08. I should be getting her next Friday. So she will be 11.5 weeks when I get her. That is probably a good age.

The breeder says she is litter box trained and he told me what to get. So at lunch today I went to Wal-mart and got a litter pan, scooper and litter. It seems so wrong somehow. But I am sure I will be glad when I have to go to work the first day and leave her in an x-pen. If she really really does know how to use it, life will be good.

I'll have to pick up some of her food this weekend and some puppy toys. It has been enough time since I had a puppy, I feel like I am forgetting something. I am getting a crate and bed for her. and collar and harness (gigi's will be too big). She has a vet appt scheduled the day she gets here. What else do I need? [oh, except my head examined. ]

My neighbor just acquired a female 10 week old Cavalier King Charles. She's as cute as a button. Initially a touch hyper when I first petted her, but calmed quickly. She is crate trained and near potty trained. The new owner takes her everywhere with him.

A very curious dog. I met her because she ran across the street to check out one of my horses at the fenceline before I scooped her up into my arms.

I was appalled that the new owner just let her run across like that.

    Congrats on you new baby!

I took a friend to 3 Dog Bakery to buy her new English Setter a collar. So while I was there I had to pick up a tiny collar for the new puppy. On the day she arrives, one of my friends is going with me to get her because I get so nervous with this sort of thing. I'm such a goof that way.

Tomorrow I am going to a friend's to help her take her dog to the big dog park for the first time. Then we are going to go shopping and get dog food and a bed. And anything else I think of that I need.

Then I am going to make sure to catch up on my sleep all week. And stock up on coffee for those early morning revelries.

Okay....take a breathe. You are obsessing

Didn't you say the puppy was litter trained?

Good grief. A dog using a litter box!

Do ya think that type of training could transfer to horses?

As if I am not know for obsessing. It is one of my best traits.
