    orange zest sub?

My sister sent me an acorn squash recipe (stuffed with an apple/pear/raisin filling), and it calls for the grated zest of an orange. I don't have an orange, but I have clementines, tangerines, grapefruit, lime and lemons! Which would be the best substitute? I think I can safely eliminate the grapefruit and lime. Suggestions?

Personally, I've never used a clementine zest in anything. I do love tangerine zest though!

It's hard to zest a clementine as the skin is so thin but you can give it a try or use tangerine. You could probably sub with just about any other citrus or even a combination of citrus. I do love grapefruit zest.

I've used tangerine or tangelo in recipes that call for orange zest, with great success! Go for it!

Thanks for the replies! I think I'll go ahead and use the tangerine.
